Car Parking - Private compaines

Hi

how many people have ignored their parking ticket? I have received one (and 2 mates) for £75 - we all parked in the same area in Milton Keynes Hub. I was not aware that this was not council car parking - therefore thought I could park free of charge this was 10pm at night.

I have been in contact with trading standards and they have said there is enough signage - there may but not stating that it is private land - and obviously it is not - as there have been a number of complaints to the council. It would have been better to park on double yellow lines and got booked. This company says you have to call a number to pay by credit card (i have been up and taken photos of the area).

There are two compaines involved in this Civi Engineering Ltd who are part of the same company as Creative car Parks Ltd and who look after the land belongs to Ramada Encore Hotel.

It would not have been better to park on double yellows, because council parking tickets are actually enforceable, whereas private parking invoices are not. Don't bother with trading standards, don't contact the company, just ignore any communication from them - even if you think it looks official and genuine. After a few months they will give up and leave you alone. Lots of people ignore these parking invoices successfully.

This is not guaranteed - another company sends the boys round then issues county court claims, which cannot just be ignored and presumably gets some people to give in to and pay up.

"The boys" being sent round means nothing, unless there has already been a court case which the OP has lost. As long as the OP ignores all communication, they remain nothing more than the registered keeper of the vehicle. It is up to the PPC to prove who was driving the car, and unless the OP tells them who was driving the car voluntarily, there's really not much chance it will get as far as court.
  • Oh, and that thread on pepipoo you posted, it started here. The OP on that thread is dealing with a PPC run by a well known retard. The PPC in that case is acting illegally and will in all likelihood be shamed in court, should it get that far - unlikely.
  • True, once in a blue moon they do try it on and usually lose and then give up. If a big company like Excel can't win then its a sure sign that its normally a waste of time. I am sure the case you have highlighted will fail and the ppc will be trounced. Trying to sue the keeper when they are not necessarily the driver is a sure way to lose.

That case quoted above is a one-off. It involves a company (PCN-UK) which seems to have broken so many laws and guidelines that you can disregard that as typical behaviour by a PPC.
What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?

Nevertheless, you cannot just ignore a county court summons, (or rather, if you ignore it, you will regret it!) which was the point I was making.
  • I have a PCN: not an invoice - I don't want to pay it but don't want to end up paying out more if they take me to court. If I really thought I was in the wrong I would pay it.

a PCN is an invoice if it is issued by a private parking company.Just ignore.

It's an invoice if it's from a private company. They can call it a PCN but this doesn't make it anything more than an unenforceable invoice for parking. There is only a tiny chance that it would ever get as far as court, even the example brought up earlier will likely not go to court. If you want reassurance, consider that nearly everyone here has had one of these private "PCN" invoices and successfully ignored it.
