I purchased a car from motorpoint in may 2008. Was led to believe it was new and registered in may 2008. Since found out it was imported from cyprus and it has also had a previous owner. Lucky enough i have not been in any accidents or my insurers would probably not have paid out as i did not declare it was an import because i did not know. Just had it valued would have been £9500 if been uk but is only worth £7100.

Is it an actual imported car or has the dealer sourced foreign spec cars? There is a difference. Motorpoint often source foreign spec cars for bulk discounts etc. Doesnt necessarily make them "imports"

Secondly an 08 plate car could not have been registered in Dec 07. Its impossible. The car must have been registered after March 08. It was in all likiehood that they sourced a bulk order direct from the manufacturer and registered them all and sold them as pre regs. They would I imagine be down as UK registered and hence not imports.

Overall I dont think you have a leg to stand on here.

As for the PPI. Its your responsibility to ensure the details are correct not them although a PPI may be non enforceable anyway.
  • I tried to trade the car in for a new one and this was the information that came back from the history of the car so i have no idea where i stand with this car except that there is about £4000 difference between the 2 valuations.

The dealer you are trading it into is pulling a fast one.

Possibly a small difference. Certainly not 3.5k

Motorpoint import a lot of vehicles they class as EU imports from cyprus which usually have lower spec than UK models.
  • It would be nice if they told you which cars were eu imports and which were not.

The vehicles though are normally first registered in the UK hence they are not imports though in the conventional term, rather, just not UK spec

Looking at My payment protection paperwork document has my name on it stating i have no medical problems although i have asthma and hypertension. It also has been signed by someone else.

All sounds too bad to be true to me.
  • Believe me its all true and all i want it a new car.
  • can't you get another opinion, just to ensure he isn't telling porkies?
    :D
  • Just got my glass report and there is £3000 of a difference between the 2 valuations.
