I would agree I have thought about joining but I have discovered so many events through this site I have decided to give it a miss. Also I find when you are out at an event very often you get others coming along and asking you to attend their fairs. Keep a watch out as the Agricultural Shows will be starting soon as they usually are after Balmoral in May and most are very well attended regardless of weather.
  • Had a call at the weekend from GIlnahirk Primary School - they are having a craft fair in March. Cant remember the date, and dont have a contact number as I forgot to take note of the details on the answerphone before coming in to work (!), but it would be worth phoning them and getting a place...remember, its a school fair, so pocket money items and parent/children tailored items would make the best sellers. LETS ALL ASK FOR THEM TO PLAY SOME MUSIC rather than shoving us crafters in a back room to look pretty - lets DEMAND some atmosphere and encouragement for visitors and buyers alike - 2010 is the year for us crafters to strike back against the fairs we have "suffered" in 2009!!! I am sure Gilnahirk will be the first of many fun and successful ones for us all if we can give some constructive input to the organisers.

    Handy hints for newcomers:

Remember to ask the school who else is taking a stall and if you think there are too many similar then it might be better to give it a miss. If there are lots of stallholders the same, try negotiating your fee for table hire and point out the chances are you may sell less because of the competition? (if you dont ask...!) Also, how many other crafters are going to be there?
If you need an electricity supply for lights etc, ask for a stall near a socket!
Remember its EASTER, MOTHERS DAY etc - might be goodies you can tailor to that sort of buyer.
Ask if there will be tea and coffee and if it will be brought round to the tables. This is especially important if you are going on your own as it ican be hard to leave your stall - it also prompts inexperienced organisers to think of these types of things to make life a bit more comfy for us crafters!
Can you park near to the school, are the steps to get in/out of the room?
    HOW BIG ARE THE TABLES?

Im sure others might have thought of other things to ask - all comments welcome, but the idea of asking these questions, apart from finding out the answers which are quite helpful (!) is to prompt organisers to organise better fairs this year.

    Good luck everyone!
Feel free to thank me, it makes my toes tingle and my ears go warm :T

  • hello,
I'm not exactly a crafter, but i attend craft fairs selling children's books. I only started last summer so missed most. I had a few over Christmas, but not as many as i hoped! I have found that those i talk to at events keep their bookings very secret! I was hoping for pointers on where to look. I'm prepared to travel. If anyone can help, please do!
    Many thanks!
