Well done Belle - it is such a pity that more fair organizers don't take this responsible route!

It is unfortunate that the other poster was upset, but having too many of the same stalls does no-one any favours and ruins the event in the long run - plenty of other events on the list that day!

cheers suzanne, i try and limit the numbers of the same/similar items so that everyone gets an equal chance

This forum is just one great big BORE now!

Why do people read and not post - I don't actually know how to post is just the lamest excuse I have ever heard - if you can find your way on to the site to read the dates you can find the little box at the bottom to type in!

Ok, i've a funny story of something that happened me last week (well its funny now, wasn't at the time) that made me realise just how appropriate the name Crazycat candles is.

I have 5 cats and every now and again they go on these mad rampages chasing one another around the house, unfortunately they decided to go on one of these on Friday night when I was up to my eyes in the kitchen making candles.

I had about 20 jars on the dining room table that were just poured and next minute 3 of the moggys came tearing into the kitchen at high speed and before I could stop the biggest was skidding along the dining table trying her best to stop. Everything seems to go into slow motion with me screaming and the cat trying to dig her claws into a newly polished laminate table. She just managed to avoid the candles and as I was breathing a sigh of relief the other two ploughed into the box of unmelted soy wax and lo and behold, wax flakes everywhere!!!

Anyone who has cats will know that unlike dogs they take no responsibility for their actions so all three just looked at me as if to say, 'you'd need to clean that up Kerri' and walked off. I think my hubby took some pictures so ill try and upload them later!!

Never work with children and animals, cats are now strictly banned from kitchen when candles are being made!!!!:rotfl:

Anyone else have crafting mishaps that they can laugh about later!!
  • Hey folks, was wondering is anyone doing Downpatrick on the 4th, I think Helen must be off because I rang today as my cheque had been cashed but I hadn't received any confirmation just make sure I was on the list and find out set up times etc. The chap on the phone seemed a bit flustered and didn't really seem to know what was happening!!! Eeeekkkk!! Hope its all ok!!

I'm am soooooo busy at the mo with orders I have got from work hope i'll have plenty of stock left for the fairs!! Looks like my week off will be spent up to my elbows in wax :)

Think, like a lot of craft fairs, they don't respond and assume you will turn up on the day.

Helen came back to us because she didn't want me to bring the jam or chutney as they make their own, but other than that don't think we would have heard from them either.

I worked for this project years ago and it is a really worthwhile charity, glad so many of you are supporting them at this event.

Thanks for the cat story, what a hoot!

Im loving this thread. Im addicted to craft fairs, but since I dont drive, Im limited to where I can go. Looking forward to Whitehead on Saturday with the OH and DD tho. Anyone here going?

The reason I discovered this thread is that Im searching for an artist that is in St Georges Market. I bought some lovely cards but have given them all out and cant remember her name! She is (or at least was a few weeks ago) in the stall beside the bathrooms. Its pictures and cards that have people drawn almost like stick figures, but are v sweet. Ive a feeling its Emma or Emily something,...but I could be wrong.

Can anyone help me pls? I know its not much to go on!

Oh thats ok then, i'm just soooo neurotic I worry about turning up to fairs and them looking at me blankly going 'sorry who are you'!! :p
  • Hi everybody,

I haven't been on for a while - busy, busy busy.

It's a bit hit and miss with the Craft Fairs I'm doing at the minute, and as I'm still new to it, I keep looking at my stock, stand everything to see if I can do anything differently.

Anyway, just looking for a bit of advice, or what's the best practice, on taking cheques from customers for payment of your goods!

I didn't see it as a problem as long as you had a card and the details, but somebody said something that concerned me a little.

Has anybody ever had any bad experiences, bounced cheques or that sort of thing? Just wanted to get a general idea of how all you more experienced folk dealt with this issue in the age of debit cards!!

Obviously I don't have one of those terminals, so at the Craft Fairs it's cash or cheques only.

What do you think and what do you all do?

    Cheers

Just a little story, because you never can tell.......

Did a fair last week, it wasn't great, but one of my customers during the night was a sweet little old lady. She didn't buy much, but it was better than nothing.
Towards the end of the evening I had started to put away some of the less obvious stock, thinking I might get packed up quicker. (There hadn't been much activity for a while)

The evening had finished, everybody was packing up and the little old lady arrived back at my table with her cup of tea.

She just started looking through the few bits I had left on my table and asking prices etc. Cutting a long story short, I ended up getting bits and pieces back out of boxes again to show her what I had.

In the end she ended up being the best customer I had all night. So it took 15 minutes of my time when I was in a hurry to be away, but in the end she went away happy - and so did I!

So one thing I've learnt - you never can tell!
