My sister borrowed my portable hd and her AVS alerted her to the fact that there were some infected files on there (not realising that my AV hadn't been re-installated after the last wipe), downloaded malwarebytes straight away and was informed that there were three files that were a problem these have been removed, and as the advice on another thread i have downloaded hijack - the log from the scan i have done on my laptop is: (once laptop is sorted will sort out my portable hard drive)

first off, uninstall any toolbars you don't use/need (should be done from Control Panel - Add/Remove Programs)

Next, download CCleaner, run Registry part, delete all, run cleaner, delete all.
    http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner/

Download, update and FULL scan with MBAM, remove all it finds and post the log back here.
    http://www.filehippo.com/download_malwarebytes_anti_malware/

Then do a new HJT log

BTW, you're using a very old version of Kaspersky...do you still get updates for it ?? If not, would be worth using avast or avira instead...

Will check back tomorrow on progress :)

p.s. nothing looks too out of place in the current HJT log, but as you recognised yourself, the pc is getting bogged down with carp, so best clean out and do a fresh one as above....

Hiya sorry to be a pain where you've put delete all - is that finding each file and deleting it or is it another function within ccleaner?

    Thanks :)

Hi I no longer have a p.c. I now have a Mac but when I did have one I used pcpitstop, which is free it analyses your computer and afterwards it shows you flags, a checkered flag means that part of the test is good, a red flag means sort it out straight away, and a yellow flag means it needs sorting but there is no rush, and the best part is it tells you how to correct any faults it may find in an easy to understand way. I highly recommend this, and don’t be alarmed while running the test you will see on your screen flashing images circles etc, and if you enter your email address you will be able to keep a log of your previous tests, and its free. http://www.pcpitstop.com/pcpitstop/

Sneezy - deleting stuff CCleaner finds is a function within the program...you just click the button to do it :)

I'm probably being quite stupid (but it is early) but the only buttons on front when i've run the registery are Scan for Issues (which is what i pressed when it loaded up) and fix selected issues and that just displays a pop up saying "do you want to back up changes to the registry" - is that what would delete?

    Sorry :)

"do you want to back up changes to the registry" you click YES to that and back them up

    THEN ccleaner will remove everything

Hello again, sorry for the delay in getting back, i have done step one (the first link), however i've downloaded the MBAM prog but when i try to update i get an error (732 (12007, 0) - it states to contact the MBAM support team, but when i've tried to get online to their website i get the message "internet explorer cannot display this page" (which is the same message i rec for any kind of av software / spyware website)

Is it possible to do a full scan without having to do an update?

    Thanks

If you downloaded the latest version, you won't be too bad. This behaviour is indicative of being infected with something. If you can get into Safe Mode with Networking, try updating from there. If not, try scanning with what you've got
