lights gone off upstairs

Options
hi,

i got the house last year november and the upstairs lights were not working and then they came on few months later.

same thing happened 5 days ago. i turned the light on at 6 am and all upstairs lights went off. yesterday the light came on for few minutes and then went off again.

this seems to be happining in winter. i have the old fuse box, cant tell what is going on as all the wires in the fuses seem fine.

can someone please let me know if they know what the problem is.

thank you

    Does it happen when you turn any other lights off or on.

    If no, i seriously recommend calling an electrician, as this does not sound like it can be fixed over the internet.

    Call an electrician - we don't bite, but we can't often diagnose faults like this without seeing the installation. A quick visit and he might just find out what's wrong!

    Find a registered/certified electrician here;

    Metal contracts (shrinks) when its cold which may be enough to seperate contacts in a connection somewhere in a circuit, or in the damper weather water might be causing a short circuit. Or it could be something else entirely - however there are possibilities that shouldn't be just left as there could possibly be a risk of fire if there is a poor connection somewhere - get someone in who can check it out and test everything. Its better to be safe than cheap.

    Did you mean a few minutes later? Or are you saying you had no upstairs lights all winter?

    Have you booked your electrician yet as recommended early yesterday?

    Cheers

  • Shabana....please get a good electrician in immediately! I cannot believe this issue with old wiring was not picked up in your survey! Seriously this is not an optional extra but an absolute necessity.
    If you post your location maybe someone can recommend a trustworthy electrician.
