OH must have requested further info from the estate agent, and submitted his own details - there's no way RM could have gotten his details just from his ip address

Many people I know (myself included) have gone straight on to Rightmove when they see a For Sale sign going up on their street - they just want to know how much it's going on the market for, so they can work out how much their own house has gone up in value. No big deal - I've done it a few times. There's a bit of the "nosey" in all of us!

The home page on Rightmove has a registration facility for you to enter your name, address (which is not compulsory - I haven't entered mine) and email address, so that you can save suitable properties to your favourites, and save favourite searches. I guess they must be able to follow your clicks and keep a record what you've clicked on, which is slightly worrying?!

  • I'm an EA who uses rightmove and there's no way to get people's names and addresses of there unless they send an email requesting further details. If an agent logs on to rightmove, they can see stats of click throughs and other figures but definitely no names!
Scar tissue that I wish you saw, sarcastic mister know it all, close your eyes and I'll kiss you cause with the birds I'll share this lonely view.
  • maybe the IT guy at work is having a laugh too, our IT guy could probably pull the IP addresses for a site and pass on the details for a giggle.

But does sound like a joke, i bet if i sold my house on rightmove everyone from my work would wanna look too, i could take my keys in and just tell by their faces

Why? most websites have ways of doing this, why do you think adverts you see on site are quite specific to you?

If the EA is really writing to their vendors passing on the names of everyone who has looked at a particular page on Rightmove (which they aren't, by the way, but let's imagine for a moment that they were) then it would be a major data protection no-no.

Yes, but it's just the fact that they appear to be able to get a printout with your name and address on in this case, and distribute it to the estate agents without your knowledge which is the worrying bit.
