missed payment with Halifax..

hey guys,

i missed my payment for the halifax 'one' card and only 3 months in on the 0% balance transfer.

the reason payment was missed because dad had a heart attack and i practically lived in the hospital, went home today and realised payment was due on the 19th so i quickly paid today by internet banking.

rang them up to let them know and the women wouldnt budge on the £25 charge but i am more worried about the 0%, will they take it away?

thanks for any help..

As far as I'm aware, all cards with introductory offers revoke them if your late with a payment/break any of the terms. I can't find the terms for your card online. Do you still have your credit agreement? If so, it will tell you.

I am very sorry to hear of your dad's hospitalisation and the associated worry you have about his health.

Credit Cards have a lot of Terms & Conditions many in small print.
Some people, I count myself among them, take advantage of the terms and conditions and build up a profitable stooze pot.
Others benefit from 0% interest periods and 0% balance transfers.

To make sure you do not, through circumstances beyond your control, incur severe penalties it is essential to set up a Direct Debit for the minimum payment each month. You can make other payments as well.

Perhaps someone will read this and avoid the danger of incurring the penalties you have incurred.

I did almost the exact same thing! They phoned me and asked why I hadn't paid and I confessed that I forgot and he took a payment over the phone. They said that they wouldn't charge any late fee and that it wouldn't effect my 0% offer this time. I always pay on time now.

I'd try phoning again and see if you get someone more sympathetic? We missed the first payment on our Marbles card because I didn't realise they hadn't set the DD up. DH rang and they refunded the charge and reinstated the 0%

i dont normally do DD's because i pay over the minimum payment but it varies each month, with halifax i have always paid the extra and always on time. the card is in my husbands name but i am an additional card holder. i'm gonna ring today and see what they say..

thanks for all your help guys..

You can lead a horse to the water but you can't make it drink.
I refer you to my earlier reply above.

I pay all my bills by direct debit but for some reason hadn't set it up for my Halifax card. They rang me and I made the payment over the phone and they didn't take away the introductory offer. I've set it up as DD now!

You can pay minimum by DD and extra by other means.

AFAIK an additional cardholder cannot do this. The best way is to ask your husband to make a call and after passing security questions hand the headset over to you.

P.S. Also there is no point in paying extra during 0% period. It is much better just to put this money into instant access savings account.

I know it's only a one off - but don't forget you can claim back this fee (see the Bank charges thread for details or visit bankactiongroup.com)

A & L charged us £59 in fees even though we are extremely careful with our money and it was their internet banking that messed us up - we have successfully claimed these back.
