As tiltle says, I opened the door to Welcome finance, at £5.30pm tonight and thanks to all you lovely people i gave them, 2 ladies a piece of my mind.
I have had 3 loans with welcome finance, over the course of 6 yrs and never missed a payment. My current one ends in octobeer 2010, this will end my debt. I have even done the stupid thing of not paying my rent or council tax and paid them !!!!! I know better now. Well in October i rang and told them that i could not meet my payments, due to having to catch up on my rent and council tax and could i drop my payments just 4 3 month until january then i would be sorted and able to go back to my original payment. In short they said no way, i explained that in 6 i had never missed a payment and just wanted 3 months, they said my finances wasnt there problem and wanted full payment. So in a fit of temper I cancelled my DD and they cot fuff all. I ignored all there phone calls and letters and tonight they knocked on my door. I had already told DH about this. I explained that it was there own fault that they got no money at all, i cancelled DD because they would not help and i had to pay rent arrears and council tax arrears which were more important. she said, that was not her problem and she wanted the arrears £270 paying now. i said i was not paying but as i had explained. i wil contact you in january and clear my arrears and re do my direct debit. she then said to me "the thing is these days they reposeses cars and send bailiffs to your door ":mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad: Well i just saw read and said "actualy you dont send them the court does and long long before this my arrears will be paid and dd back in force" "she was spechless for a few seconds and then said. " well the thing is, if we dont get payment now it will go the the collection agency and we dont want that, it will affect your credit rating to which i replied, ( by this time my husband was standing behind me) my credit rating is shot to hell any way, so that threat is going to work either, I will ring you January the 3rd if my account has gone to the collection agency you can give me the contact number and i will deal with them, she was all flustered and said in a sarky tone. ok you obviously know more about are company policy than i do so we will leave it at that, i said no actualy i dont but i do know all about your bullying and threatening tactics, she turned to walk away and i said, Wait i think i can help you, she stopped and turned and i said. When you get home log on to moneysavingexpert.com you might learn something, i learnt a lot, goodnight and i shut the door.
when i got in the house DH said OMG where on earth did all that come from i said MSE, I felt very proud but probaly misplaced as i should not have cancelled DD in the first place but if i did not i would have gone overdrawn at the back or my rent money would not have been there.

awesome!! where is the picture of their faces when you told them that!STARTING BALANCE JAN 09 £47,400
Debt left 24th December 2010 - 13611!!!!!:j
Update may 2013 - debt left £8000
Update oct 2014 - £25000 -
You certainly put it to them
You did the right thing to realise the priority debts must be paid first, they can kick and scream all they want but i believe a court would side with you. The only other thing you could have done is requested to pay via standing order before cancelling, DDs and just send them the reduced payments.
But hey, you sound pretty well sorted.Although no trees were harmed during the creation of this post, a large number of electrons were greatly inconvenienced.
There are two ways of constructing a software design: One way is to make it so simple that there are obviously no deficiencies, and the other way is to make it so complicated that there are no obvious deficiencies0 -
Firstly, With all due respect to you and your circumstances.
What makes you think that you can borrow someone else's money, including agreeing to terms & conditions that were laid down, prior to you accepting the loan from them.
Then you decide that you want to pay it back when you feel like it, at a time that suits you (breaking the above agreement you signed to honour), yes I agree that they should have given you assistance in making the payments, either through reduced payments or a payment holiday.
This highlights the the seemingly care-free financial society that we live in today, where most people think they can borrow money that is NOT theirs, then pay it back when they feel like.
Finally, If you cannot afford to pay it back, don't borrow it in the first place!0 -

1. i was asking for reduced payments 4 3 months and not no payment for 3 months and definatly not a holiday from paying them
2 i have had a loan from them for 6 years and never ever missed a payment
I think i have worded it wrong in my first message, it was never my intention to just not pay, i know its my debt and i will honour it and pay it in full
I do not like your attitude, I am well aware of my mistakes, i am here for help and support and do not need to be condemed by you or people like you.
"i should not borrow what i cannot afford to pay back " you self rigeous b*astard for all you condemnations, i am a better person than you and hope you continue to be able to pay your monies owed and never find yourself out of employment or any other situation that finds you unable to pay your way.

With regards to GjrBartlett's comments, peoples circumstances change currently alot of people are losing jobs, their main source of income and this does happen. Sure some people do abuse the system but probably only a small minority. The main problem is that the firms are couldn't-care-less about the people just about been paid. They have no compassion and at the end of the day, money is the route of all evil and thats all a loans company cares about.Although no trees were harmed during the creation of this post, a large number of electrons were greatly inconvenienced.

Gjr Bartlett I have always wanted to meet you, the one person in the world who has never made a mistake.Find out who you are and do that on purpose (thanks to Owain Wyn Jones quoting Dolly Parton)0

I really don't understand why you feel it's necessary to say this to the OP who is obviously trying to pay off all their debts unlike some people!
It's also a pity you didn't read
"Pls remember Debt-Free Wannabee's for support and help not judgement"
at the top of this forum in quite big letters0 -
Ignore Trolls peeps
There is a super facility if you click on a name and go to their public profile - you should see a bit that says ignore this user
To set the record straight - Gjr - Bloo isn't saying she won't repay it - she's saying she CAN'T. The fact that she has infact neglected other priorities this far is - if anything - what is silly. But the past is the past - and she's working through it and repaying her debts by priority - not by "who has the scariest friends"
Bloo - I would send them a letter recorded explaining your position and pay them £1 per month for now until you can afford to resume paying. What you are in effect doing is a mini self managed debt plan - but what you need to do is formally notify them and keep making the token payments
Hang in there - you'll get there!DFW Nerd #025DFW no more! Officially debt free 2017 - now joining the MFW's!
My DFW Diary - blah- mildly funny stuff about my journey0 -
