Bartlett person .. sorry can't be bothered with the **

This highlights the the seemingly care-free financial society that we live in today, where most people think they can borrow money that is NOT theirs, then pay it back when they feel like.

Finally, If you cannot afford to pay it back, don't borrow it in the first place!

Or could this apply to ' Lending sharks .. why bother to lend the money to people who are in dire straights in the first place, who they realise will fall into arrears and will end up paying them back at a hugely inflated rate of interest?'
Carefree lenders out to make more than a buck long term?
  • Firstly, With all due respect to you and your circumstances.

What makes you think that you can borrow someone else's money, including agreeing to terms & conditions that were laid down, prior to you accepting the loan from them.

Then you decide that you want to pay it back when you feel like it, at a time that suits you (breaking the above agreement you signed to honour), yes I agree that they should have given you assistance in making the payments, either through reduced payments or a payment holiday.

Hoisted by your own Petard judging by the responses - many of which by the way are from those who don't have credit issues.

Hey, you're entitled to your opinion, but look at the weight of opinion against you.

By way of example, I've just spent over an hour trying to help a friend, who is not English and who has clearly had someone take advantage of her. She's taken out a loan with a MONTHLY interest rate of 20%. This stays the same BTW until the loan is paid off in full, i.e. the interest payable relates to the initial loan, irrespective of the outstanding balance.

She took the loan to help her parents overseas, not for herself. She has also never missed a payment and is working 4 jobs, 7 days a week to try and pay it back. Unsurprisingly, she is in despair.

My point? Don't assume every case is the same, mostly its due to a change in circumstances and believe me, for most people in this situation, the last phrase I'd use to describe them would be 'care-free'.

Having thanked GrjBartlett I feel I must post as to not do so seems somewhat underhand and sneaky (to me anyway).

Whilst I do agree with some of what Bartlett said I also believe it was very much aimed and shot at the wrong person on the wrong thread.

Bloojeans, congratulations on standing up to the debt collectors. If only the financial institutes would play ball and actually help those asking for it there would probably be a lot less need for DCA's and they'd get all of the money owed to them plus the extra interest they could charge on top.

    Why don't they realise that?

    Well done OP

GJ when you post on a Forum it is customary if not Honourary to observe the Local rules. By that I mean don't Judgem which someone else has already pointed out. It also helps if you read the individual threads and then pass an opinion on a factual basis. The OP fell behind, risked her home and also broke the law by paying to welcome finance rather than the council and landlord.
When you find Utopia do me a favour take all the loan and cc companies with you, apparently they are part of an ideal world.

  • Well done to Op for standing up to the finance company.

It is only too easy for others to say "you borrowed it, etc, etc", however that is not the issue here. Informing a company that your situation has changed takes some courage, unfortunately the companies will sometimes not be as helpful as they claim on paper.

Not everyone in this country can brag about how financially well off they are. There are very few in this country that can say "my situation will never change" or "I won't get made redundant". Things happen and they don't always happen for the better, if they did I wouldn't be up for 20 hours a day working two jobs and would be thinking of how to spend all my money rather than paying my bills and cards off!!

Bloo, keep your chin up and have a fine christmas.
