Vodafone Number Porting Problem

Hi guys, has anyone ever ported a number to vodafone, my gf has just tried and apparently you have 7 working days since the contract started, to port it.

She has been waiting for the pac code from oragne for 7 days anyway! So now they say theres nothing they can do, does anyone know if there is a way to change this number over? or can someone from vodafone web team let me know if there is any way we can get around it?

Voda have always said that they can only do the port when you sign up (they're the only network that says this).
Can't you call Orange and get the code? Once its generated they should be able to see it on the system.

    Hi bigmacca81625,

Jon 01 is correct, numbers can only be ported in at the start of your contract, therefore it's best to obtain your PAC before you sign up to a contract with us. At the point of sale, did you let us know that you would want to be porting a number in later?

If you would like me to, I am happy to look into this for you to see if there is any way of us being able to port your number in. However, I can't promise that this will be possible but feel free to contact me by clicking the link below and I will look into it for you.

I'm interested to know what it is about the Vodafone system that prevents a number being ported in after the contract has started? With Three for instance, you can port a number in at any point of the contract. Why can't Vodafone do this?

I was wondering that myself, you can port/migrate in at any time with o2 also.

With all the other networks you can port in at any time, it is just Voda.

I can't say for sure as I don't work for Voda, but I'd guess that its something to do with the way their server managers the number allocation. There's must be something in the server software that locks the number and won't allow a change.

Maybe a Voda staffer (or exstaffer) could explain ?

I would have thought it might just be a policy.

On the voda forum in Jan 2009 they were claiming its due to the fact they only have a set number of numbers given to them (like every network) and they don't want to have to issue temp numbers and put them through cleansing after a port in.

    Hi Guys,

Can see your all interested as the the porting position on Vodafone.

Currently Vodafone does not support "In Life Porting" So the only way to port into Vodafone would be as the start of a contract. Normally a port from one network to Vodafone will take two working days.

    Hi Ben,

But WHY do Voda have this policy? Is it a tech issue with the server or is it just that you have decided that you don't want to do ports after sign up ?

And how come it takes 7 days to port in? Must be a technical reason if it takes that long, or just a slow MNP team.
