Smug cashier

Listen to this, went to my bank today (business account) to pay in over 1k to cover pending cheque. Paid in monies, cashier smiled, thank you etc etc.So, this is during my lunch break, went back to work, checked bank, hubby had counted money wrong and was £5 out, so pending cheque in threat of bouncing for sake of couple of quid. So exit work again, ran to bank with money. Now, I know it`s our fault really but for godsake could cashier not have said something? For starters, she did not say our pay in slip was wrong, which it obviously was. I was almost dizzy with running back and forward.I have probably just ranted for nothing but hey I had to get it off my chest. Thanks for listening

Would the bank really bounce the cheque for £5?

Like you, I'd have expected them to pick it up Bassett. Ours is always meticulous about checking the cash we bank, down to the last note and penny... though they do often use those note-counting thingies, and I guess it's possible it could have made a mistake if it wasn't quite calibrated correctly (but if it wasn't I imagine it would be a serious matter, and wouldn't only affect you).

If you know one that wouldn't don't keep it to yourself there's millions of people out there would switch accounts to them.

Sorry, but you make a mistake and you blame the Bank. There is just too much criticism of Banks for very little reason.
They run a business, you run a business (your family finances) that's how the world goes round.

Don't work for a bank do you? The point is that the cashier is a paid member of staff that is employed to, in this instance, check what's paid in over the counter. If they can't do the job properly, they should find something else a little less taxing.

At what point in my post did I blame the cashier?

I once paid a cheque for £3k into the building society, as I was leaving the counter I noticed the book had only been updated for £300. I returned to the same counter to have the error corrected, £300 was duly taken out of the account and £30k added in. Being an honest joe I pointed out the error and the right deposit was entered after 2 mistakes.

To change the subject slightly....last month I was queuing at M&S and noticed what I thought was a receipt on the floor. It was in fact a credit voucher for Argos, and I handed it in to customer services thinking that someone may claim it but the assistant's demeanour was such that I wouldn't be surprised if she pocketed it herself. 10 years on and still honest! It wouldn't occur to me to keep something that wasn't mine, I couldn't enjoy ill-gotten gains.

well, you are only talking about the cashier. I was once in Halifax, handed my debit card, deposited £1000 cash. Got the printed receipt, it was not my name! I told the cashier. The first question she asked me was "if you gave me the same card?!". I told her "the card is still in front of you". She said "well, just as well you notice it".
