Wireless adapter

Hi everyone and merry Christmas

I could do with a hand if anyone can help

I am wanting to get my little girls computer to go wireless, its a dell desktop with vista, I have been in touch with Orange and they sent me a link http://www.orangeaccessories.co.uk/broadband/wireless_adaptors.html but I was just wondering if anyone could please tell me if this is a good fast adaptor and is it a good price, we know nothing about wireless adaptors as our laptops are already wireless. She has been using a 02 dongle and it is soooooo slow it would be quicker to walk to Wetherby and go to the British Library lol

p.s the livebox is down stairs the desktop is upstairs and we live in a terraced house

If there is a spare PCI slot on the PC, fit a PCI card for £8.

If you are too nervous to fit it, here's a cheap and flexible USB Adaptor for £9.78.

No need to spend £14 as suggested by Orange.
  • im not scared about fitting it but how do i know if there is one spare? also can I go to PC World and just say can I have a wireless card for my comp please also will he know what I mean? im not comp stupid just never messed with wireless never had to,

Very unlikely that there is not a spare PCI slot on your desktop, you can see at the back if there is a spare blanking plate or two at the bottom of the connector panel, most PC's come with at least a couple spare from new. You simply remove the case/side panel, remove a blanking plate and slot the card in.
If you are not completely stupid, then you are almost certainly more knowledgeable than any employee of PCW, so please don't get it there, go to an independent PC shop and just ask for a wireless PCI card (that's the only sort that will fit your desktop, unless you want a wireless USB adapter. Fitting is a ten minute job at most.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
