Advise needed - aol broadband contract finished

Hi there, I need advice please, my aol broadband contract finished last week, I only use it for basic internet usage, but have bought my daughter an IPod for Xmas so will be downloading music, I rang AOL up last night to see what they had to offer to keep me with them, I've only ever been with Aol over the last 3 years and never had any problem with them, but wondered if I could get a better deal somewhere else? There are a lot of broadband offers for my area CH8 7XP.
I last 18 month contract cost £9.99 a month unlimited broadband, I'm with BT on landline (in a contract with them) and have sky family package.
I have tried to research better offers, but it all confuses me!
They offered me the same price of £9.99 a month with the first 3 months free for a period of 18 months contract, they told me that I would be a fool not to take the offer because it's one of the best offers around, are they correct? I did sign up with them again but I know I have 7 days cooling period and it's playing on my mind that maybe it was a mistake.

Was I a fool to sign up again? Could I get a better offer and save more?
Please help!

  • My AOL broadband contract finishes in January and they called me earlier this week and offered me a 'great deal' at £14.99 a month with the first 3 months free for an 18 months contract. I didn't accept and said I was going to shop around first
Has anyone negotiated a better AOL deal than the £9.99 which was offered to sweetheartlmg in the above post?

    Many thanks
  • Maybe I didn have a good deal with £9.99 a month for 18 months, some friends have cheaper broadband payments, for example sky broadband only £7ish but they have a package deal with phone and sky channels.
I have phoned O2 and BT, but they were £15 & £17 a month, so will stick to AOL (no harm in asking though)
  • Hi
yes i have a good deal with AOL...i have my broadband for 6.99pm i have a BT landline but all my calls are with AOL i can call for 59 min for free so if iam on phone longer to friends i hang up and redial
my bills are no more than between £10 to £15 pm and then my line rental from BT which is £11pm totalling around £28pm thats inc my BT landline
Resolve not to be poor, Whatever you have , Spend less.

How long have you been on the £6.99 rate and how did you negotiate it ?

    Thanks

I was with AOL for years, the way to negotiate used to be to tell them you are leaving because you have found a better deal, they ask you what the deal is, as long as they have heard of it, they will match it.

O2 will do you a deal, if you are an existing O2 customer, the cost is reduced by a fiver, making it around £7.50 a month and I think they have free for so long first too (possibly 3 months).

Have you tried a comparison website like money supermarket??
    Starting weight 17st 4lb - weight now 15st 2lbs

    30lb lost of 30lb by June 2012 :j:j:j (80lb overall goal)

  • I am as of today on the £6.99 pm deal .It seems to be the cheapest option ,subject to 18 month contract and transfering my calls through aol (the phone part is not subject to contract ).so now im saving £3.00 on my broadband and £5.99 bt anytime charge per month .
