This has nothing to do with MoneySaving, but I found it interesting so thought I would bring it to you. At a family BBQ, my sister's friend who's a chef, wiped down the grill rack with a red onion. It was cut in half, with a fork in the back to hold it, and then dipped in water. Apparently this cleans the rack, reduces smoke and improves flavour. You heard it here first!

My German friend swears by burning fir cones on the BBQ. Haven't tried it myself by hey it's free!:D BBQ is also very good with a few sprigs of rosemary strewn on it...gives the meat a better flavour

My Brother, also a chef does the same thing but how does it work. He also chops up an onion if hes been repainting as it gets rid of the smell apparently.

My DH swears by using a lemon to clean the bar-b-q whilst it's still warm.

Wonder if this will work on my George Forman grill too as it's a nightmare to clean. I will try..

You can get sponges especially for cleaning George's - got mine from Comet for £2.99 for 3 and it's amazing! Just wet it and then clean, it's got ridges in it so it gets rid of all the mess.

To clean George put 2 very wet peices of kitchen roll on the grill and then turn it off and shut the lid for about 1-2 minutes. The steam lifts the dried on stuff off and it just wipes away!
