Blackberry - what are the money traps?

It's known that mobile phone operators try to squeeze and trick as much money out of you as they possibly can.
It's very easy to do something that ends up costing you a fortune.

Right now I am signed up with a £25 pcm Blackberry contract with Vodafone.

What services should I stay away from - I mean, what do they charge extra for..?

Anybody's got experience of being "burnt" by getting carried away with all the different services on the blackberry?

  • Vodafone does not include MMS in their text bundles.
Their video calls are not included in their voice minutes.
    (Only applies to O2)

Do you have a blackberry internet plan with vodafone? Internet without a plan will be expensive.

I know a few friends get billed for random stuff, so keep a check on your monthly bills.
Also make sure you agreed to insurance or not, cos they automatically put it on!!!
My friend was billed for 2 months worth of insurance as he didnt know it was automatically applied if you didnt tell them you didnt want it in the first place!

Finally, if you agreed for the certain length make sure you got a paper statement saying X amount of months. Again, another friend signed up for 12 months and they put him on an 18 month..... The only thing that got him off it, was the name of the tariff was 12mxxxx... so they backed down.

I have read stories about people having discount randomly being pulled off and assumed it stayed on for the FULL length of the contract, instead of eg: 12 months discount on an 18 month contract.
  • Well, I am guessing that as you are with vodafone, you have the BB package (internet and e-mail).

So they should be unlimited and you do not pay for them..

As the previous poster said - MMS and Video calls aren't included, and you should find out your charges for these from Vodafone, to make sure they don't overcharge you if you do ever use them.

Having said that Internet and Text messages are unlimited, there IS a fair usage policy of 3000 texts and I'm not too sure on the internet limit, you are best phoning them to clarify...

MMS messages are charged at 36p per message on Vodafone.
