So Virgin staff do not understand the costs associated with transferring broadband. Your complaint should be about Virgin, not BT.

(And, btw, did Virgin sit on the phone with you for an hour and a half reading through a complete list of their terms and conditions? If not, why did you not insist they do so since you seem to think that is how telephone ordering works?)

And I don't understand. You can afford to pay for an expensive broadband contract with BT month-in month-out. You can afford to pay the subscription to Virgin month-in month-out. But you can not afford to pay the universal one-off termination fee. If £25 does stretch you so terribly then you may want to review your spending plans.
No I think I know whom my Argument is with and thats BT, They Should have a recording of when I made the order, And If they want to argue the fact, that I was made aware of the T&C i.e broadband cease charge over the phone, then They will lose.

And as for the Virgin T&C they give you a 28days money back guarantee, T&C TO read before you sign the contract they send out to you!! Compared to BT'S cancel before you TRY service,

When I ordered the Service, I had Just moved home a day or so before, Heavily pregnant, Suffering from an Asthma attack, So I guess my Baby brain wasnt at its best, I Presumed BT was like other services, where you have a certain amount of time after you have Used the service to cancel (Cooling off period)

& as for my Spending plans, I dont exactly live a life of luxury, Im a New mum, Trying to Start my Own Business, its Xmas, And I Started My contract With Virgin at the beginning of this yr!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I came here for advice Not your Presumptuous Nasty Comments!!!!

seems it was put up in June

    http://www.pcpro.co.uk/news/259942/bt-charges-25-just-to-leave-broadband

and reading the articles seems to indicate it already existed then at £18

Cease fee has been around in one form or another since May 2007, previous cease fee was £6

All existing customers, whether in or out of term, received notification of the terms and conditions change by e-mail in May 2009.
These changes were communicated as per our Terms & conditions where we need to give 14 days notice to the customer's primary email account, and publish the change on bt.com. BT gave 28 days notification in this case

    ofcom agree its fair

    7.‘Cease’ charges

If a customer decides to cancel a broadband service (and doesn’t plan to switch to a new company which also uses BT’s network) they may receive a ‘cease’ charge. This even applies if they have completed their contract. The company is passing on a charge which it has to pay, to BT Openreach.

Ofcom’s final guidance is that a cease charge is probably fair, provided:
    • the charge is made clear to customers before they sign on the line; and
    • it’s based only on the actual costs that come with ceasing a service.
