We could do this all the time, buy one get one free, buy one get two free, buy one get a free gift, 3 for 2 etc., keep taking back all the paid for items and keep the free ones. Never have a shopping bill again! Very MSE.
    ML.

Er.. its nothing like that at all.

Seeing a big "3 for 2" sign on a shelf of goods and specifically purchasing 3 items in order to get the discount is completely different to being given a free gift at the tills that wasnt advertised anywhere.

I bought the items at the weekend, used the deoderant a couple of times ( :D ) and have subsequently decided to return the aftershave.

So just because the deoderant was free that means Im not entitled to a refund on the other item?

I just thought Id ask as the free gift shows up as a separate line on the reciept as being £0.00, its not linked to the first item.

Something doesn't smell right about this.

Why not just take the deodorant back, don't sweat over it.

Mind you, if you don't take it back you might be left high and dry.

    Its a sticky situation!

You have no right to return either item.

Do you not think you are being a bit cheap? Why start the day of asking about returns time limits on another thread?

You have bought your items and they weren't the cheapest, do your reserach before parting with your cash. Or did you just buy to get the freebie and then planned to return the item?

I have every right to a refund as its the retailers policy to accept refunds within 28 days on any unwanted items.

I just thought Id ask this question as its not your common Buy One Get One free senario or 3 for 2. Anyway I returned the item this afternoon no questions asked.

Op if you thimk Boots should take back the aftershave and leave you to keep the free gift. Do you think if you'd said to the assistant when you first went in,'i only want the free one', she would have let you take it.

Are you too daft to see the difference between your senario and mine?

Do you have to return the complimentary glass of champagne you drank whilst buying a new car when you later decide to return it during the cooling off period? No.

Do you have to pay the postage fee you originally averted when you get a refund on an item that tipped the total order over the threshold for free post? No.

Should you suddenly be illegible for a refund on an unwanted item because the sales assistant handed you a random 'free' gift at the till?

Yea like you say- its exactly the same as walking into a shop and asking for the free half of the 'buy one get one free' bog roll

I like to save a few quid like most of us do. Does anyone know of any shoe stores that currently offer buy one get one free? If I find one and don't like them afterwards, would I have to take both shoes back, or just the one that I paid for?

Why are people getting on the OPs case? He might be a tight git, but the clue is in the word "free". They gave him a "free" gift. They can't change their minds afterwards and say that they didn't really mean it. Besides, anyone who wears Hugo Boss aftershave (like my 70+ Dad), needs all the freebies that they can get. I hear that Saga are offering some really cheap deals on Boss aftershave at the moment, it also comes with "free" incontinence pants, although they do not offer any exchange policy, even if they have only been "sprayed" once or twice. ;)
