What is the Glass's and other guide book values.

This is most relevant. Ad's don't mean much. The repairs cant be recouped although ask for £40 for the petrol in the car.

Tbh I think you massively overpaid for this car as Clio's are !!!! and tbh I wouldnt pay any more than a grand for an s reg clio and even then it would need to be top of the range and immaculate.

In all honesty I think you should ask for more but will struggle to justify it if they refuse.

I would have thought Ads will help back up her claim that she is due more as it will cost at least £xyz to get an equivalent replacement.

Glass / Parkers etc give you an idea of roughly what the car is worth, mainly for Trade In.

However they mean nothing if all the cars advertised are above this price...

Wrong

Ad's are not given much respect by the ombudsman as it is simply an ad not a final price. Book prices are not just trade in values.

On a common car like the Clio the book values are what matters not ads which are overpriced.

Glass's is the one the trade relies on and is what the salesman refers to if you were trying for a part ex deal. It can have values lower than other guides as it is giving trade values. so will be at the bottom end of the scale. Btw they are just as likely to write off a 2007 Clio as a 1997 one due to the cost of parts and labour.

I have to disagree with you there, she loved her Clio, it was a fantastic little car, and she is still here so can only presume it is quite safe However I think everyone has their own opinions about which cars they like and don't like.

As for the car being overpriced - the one we purchased last year was actually at the lower end of the prices of similar cars we were looking at so I guess it is a case of the market leading the price, despite what the guides say.

Absolutely - I still well up just thinking about coming round the corner and seeing the ambulance and her car in the ditch. She is a VERY lucky young lady - in a less robust car it could have all been so much worse

I've spoken to Diamond today and they have admitted that the valuation was very low but said some people accept it

I've sent all the documentation they require, together with the invoices for work we have had done which they requested, and they said that they hope to come back with a better offer next week

why not buy the car from them, get the parts needed on ebay and take it to a small local bodyshop.

They will probably let you buy the car back for 50-100 pounds! Next time you talk to them find out what category it is in. If it is a CAT D then it may be in your best interest to buy the car back. Even if it is a cat C it maybe worth while buying back, with a cat C you must do a VIC.

repair is always an option!

TBH panic when something's going wrong can cause even the best most experienced drivers to make mistakes.
