Change landline & keep ISP?

Options
Hi everyone :)

Okay, newbie here, so be gentle if I sound like a complete numpty!

My BT Landline contract is up for renewal on 5th Jan. My phone line rental is currently with BT, but my broadband is with 02. Is it possible to switch from BT and keep my current broadband contract, or am I better off switching to something like TalkTalk's £6.49/£7.49 (or whatever) calls & broadband package? (I'm aware I still have to pay around £12 line rental on this). I use the internet a lot so mobile broadband isn't really an option cos of usage limits/cost, but I'm sick of paying £20 a month to BT for a phone line that I only really use for the internet connection!

Hope I'm making sense! Any help is much appreciated, cheers :) Jen.

Yes,It is possible but you would need to let O2 know when the change is going to be done well in advance so they can arrange to re-supply your new line with broadband as the Broadband Tie Pairs in the exchange will need changed from BT to your new service.

Why are you paying BT £20pm if you don't use the phone?

BT's minimum package works out at £11.25 per month if you pay be direct debit and have paper-free billing. This gives you weekend calls and Caller Display if you sign up to BT Privacy.

Stay with BT for line rental (but at £11.25, not £20) and o2 for broadband. The TT Esssentials package is only available if you are on a TT LLU exchange.
TT maybe be cheap, but it is certainly not cheerful. O2 LLU is well worth a little more (£7.34 with the mobile discount).

Unless a working landline with dial tone exists, Post Office Homephone will normally charge £110 to install or activate a new line .

Basically Post Office Homephone is BT rebranded.

If you're changing from one active provider (BT) to another (PO) then you should'nt be liable for the charge. It's a simple matter of provisioning the line & connecting the Tie Pairs in the PSTN exchange.
