I still think that it would be easier to repair the damaged USB socket. If you can't do it find an engineer who can!

How much will that cost, for a new socket and have an engineer to fix it?

More than i can afford probably.

You could obviously use the Ethernet port to connect to the net but USB ports are essential for other things anyway. It's a no brainer, get it fixed. Any competent electronics engineer could easily fix it quite cheaply.

Rang a couple of places and its gonna cost about £100.00 - £130.00 to replace the socket, which i cant afford.

So if anyone does come across one of these cards, will be much appreciated.

    Hi mandi

No need to apologise and sorry if you think that my comments were a bit harsh.

    Quoted from post #8.

Thought i would take the easy option, turns out not to be.

Why do they supply these things if you cant buy anything that fits.

The OP states that they wouldn't trust themselves, fair enough but it's the sort of job that I personally would do for myself and if the OP hasn't got the confidence or ability to do this, the obvious answer is to find an engineer who can.

The quotes for the work are in my mind ridiculous for such a job but we don't know where the OP has asked do we. i.e. there are certain well known computer stores that should be avoided. USB ports are essential these days, and the Express card which would seem to be very difficult to obtain at the moment, is not an ideal solution to this problem anyway, as connectivity is being lost! As I have said any competent electronics engineer could fix this quite cheaply and that is what the OP needs to find.
