Hello all.....

I am looking for some of your CSA knowledge.....

OHs son has been kicked out of his full time course:eek: He is going to be 17 at the end of the month....... (Its a bit funny tho as OHs Ex was texting the other day saying that she thought we would be having it tight with a new baby on the way).....We kinda knew it was gonna happen RE OHs son, he wasnt attending ect.....Although he did enjoy the course....hormones i suppose and probably a girl involved too:p

OHs Brother has offered to take the child on as an apprentice.......meaning another course....one day a week!

Can anyone tell me what the position is now?
OHs Ex is on benefits galore.....Is she trying to pull a fast one?........

Dont get me wrong, we have always paid in full for OHs children....the 16yo has lived with us when his mum got him arrested and charged with assult.....then dropped the charges that afternoon to teach him a lesson....We have encouraged him to go back for the sake of his full brother and half brother......but it seems if it gonna go back to square one again.....

Many thanks

DO NOT PAY ANYTHING IN CASH even if u get a receipt - if the Pwc denies receiving it you will not be believed and you will have to pay it again as arrears.

Agreed, DO NOT EVER PAY CASH

You could easily end up paying twice (been there done that)

Here is some further information for you,

    Document all payments properly!
By that I mean you should make sure that there cannot be any misunderstanding what the payments are actually for in the future.

You should do more than just cross a cheque.....you should also

send a letter with each payment that you make, to the effect that the payment is specifically made to support your child (ren).

edit...You should also name the child (ren) that the payment is for.
edit...The letter has to state that the money is for child maintenance and it must also stipulate for what period

Postal orders will suffice provided that you keep the stub, DO NOT LOSE THEM!
Ensure that it has the correct name in the payee section. Ensure that you cross the order or make sure that it is crossed when you buy it. If you dont cross it then it can be cashed and is much more difficult to trace in the future. Dont forget to send a letter with the postal order as I have specified above.....and again...very important indeed...
    DO NOT make cash payments!

If you make payments through a bank, then I would advise that each time a payment is taken from your account, then you also send the letter as detailed above, to the PWC.

Keep copies of these letters, DO NOT LOSE THEM!
Make sure that each letter is dated with the same date that is on the cheque.
    DO NOT make cash payments!

Thanks to kelloggs36 who posts on here for some of the above information

One more thing, did i mention it?

    DO NOT MAKE CASH PAYMENTS

    ===============================================================

Another thing, do not make payments directly to a child, as they will be counted as pocket money and not child maintenance!
  • no problem.......thank you so much.....a crossed postal order it is then.

Does OH put kids name on the back just to make sure?

How long does a crossed postal order take to cash? Is it the same as a crossed cheque? As we dont want to leave her stuck for crimbo......mean as she is!!

Shall I get my OH to ring the CSA again and ask for confirmation in writing that CM IS still payable.......even tho his son has been kicked out of the tech??

Why does it have to be so difficult?

2nd part is not necessarily wrong - if he registers with connextions then child benefit can be extended for up to 20 weeks.

As for the cash payment, csa is her choice so pay via the csa only - she can then chase them for the money to be transferred.
  • Hi LizzieS

Thank you, what is connextions? He said he was at the job centre today and that he left his phone number.
    We live in NI
Yes CSA was her choice, but she said her payment doesnt go in until the 12th Jan and their youngest son needs a coat for christmas.....My partner is already paying the price for not doing as she says, His DS2 wont come over anymore:( and apparently according to DS1 she is telling him lies about his dad quite a lot:( Its sad really......but hopefully DS2 will realise at some point that his mum is intent on making my DPs life a misery!

DP just wants to see his kids and get on with his life........She still seems to be having trouble with that, it just wears NRPsP to bits and to watch someone being manulipited so badly and do nothing about it is distressing to say the least.....but sure thats obviously my problem!! *Rant over* sorry!

Connextions is the modern name for the careers service. The input they have has also increased to what is was years ago.

Children under 18 who are not in fulltime education or training (not up on the modern day apprenticeships as to how much is also educational as mine are doing the education route) cannot claim benefits. If they sit at home doing nothing then basically after a maximum of 20 weeks the ex will lose child benefit, csa and any tax credits for son 1 and at the same time he will get nothing in income either.

Bet you can now guess why the ex wants him back in education? Seriously though, he isn't going to get very far without trying to improve himself so yes her motives might be wrong but the end result is better for the childs whole life.

It takes the csa roughly a week to transfer money - if hers doesn't go in until the 12th then it certainly wouldn't be due from your partner yet.

Her youngest may really need a new coat, but that doesn't have to be expensive or even brand new. The youngest appears quite young so really she should have factored that into an xmas present instead.

Don't fall for the pulling of heart strings when it clearly isn't a 2 way street (contact failures).
  • Meltdown - a couple of pointers from my experience.

The payment of CB doesn't always mean CM is paid. The law is clear and it says he needs to attend an approved course for a minimum number of hours per week. You can find this stuff on the CSA site.

The CSA us payment of CB to make things easy, but it's not law. I challenged it last year and won an appeal. Once he leaves an approved course CM should cease - a difference with CB is that it can continue for 20 weeks in some circumstances.

Good luck and like everyone else says don't pay cash.
