Cheapest Pay as you go mobile internet

Hello there. I am going to be staying with family for 2 weeks over Christmas and they dont have any internet. (The shock of it!) I would like to have access during this time but dont want to be signing up for contrats or paying loads for set up fees etc. Are there any good ones about that anyone can recommend please?

Thanks

Ian

  • Hi I recommend 3 network huawei dongle. Costs 19.99 and you top up your internet allowance in £10, £15 or £25 package on a pay as you go basis. The £15 is a good deal as it is 3 gig of data for the month which is adequate for surfing and some downloading or Youtube. The download rates are 200k a sec which is roughly 30 secs for a MP3 on itunes.

The only downside is the postcode map is not accurate so it is a case of buying topping up and then checking if you can get HDSPA coverage for the dongle without refund. If no HDSPA then it is 4k a sec like the old dial up internet days. Also if the 3 dongle dont receive coverage it is unlikely any other network will work as 3 has the most coverage area.

to see what the base stations there are in that area.

    UTMS is 3G

The map isn't the easiest thing to use but you will get the hang of it.

If you can get T-mobile signal, they are quite cheap, and they have an offer on where you buy 1 day's browsing (£2) and get 30 days free.

Otherwise it's £2 per day, or you can buy a week for £7, a month for £15

Don't go for the cheapest, you have to check coverage. According to the networks' sites I get excellent coverage on all 5 networks, however I only get a Vodafone 3G signal inside, I would have to sit in the garden for the rest to give me a 3G signal.

By the way Orange do not do PAYG broadband, O2 let you buy data for a day, a week or a month. Vodafone's topups have no expiry at all (well maybe if you don't use it for 6 months) and Three's only last 30 days. Don't know anything about T-Mobile I am afraid.
