Surely if he'd had a 'personal tragedy' he'd return the item for a refund??0

He says he is trying to raise cash. If he bought it with a credit card then that would explain why he does not return it.0

Surely he does own it though if he has bought it ?
People on ebay do it all the time ,you only have to look at concert tickets for sale
I just got something for my bike off ebay ,seller lives in Scotland ,item posted from USA

Its very common in the computer market, but I ensure I always pick "next day delivery" from my supplier so that it can be built quicker and dispatched quicker. I once got a phone call off someone saying they were in the local area and could they collect. I said yes, but computer parts are ordered for next day delivery, so you could pick it up in 2 days as long as you pay a 25% cash deposit
They then had the stupidity to tell me they were a lawyer, and what I was doing is illegal. LOL! Its a very common practise in the computer market(especially at my stage)0 -
To sell anything on ebay you must own the item and have it ready for dispatch or local pick up straight away.
This is to stop scam artists listing items and then giving themselves plenty of time to do a runner with the money.
This auction will finish on the 22nd and he will not have the bike untill the 27th so he is breaking ebays rules with this auction.
If this is on the level then due to a personal tragedy he is trying to raise money by cashing in goods bought with a credit card before he goes back home to Africa.
If not then this gives him 5 days to get the money out of his paypal account and into his bank account before he needs to give a buyer any excuses as to why they cannot collect the bike more than enough time to do a runner.
As to if this is a scam or not it could be and for this reason I would not be buying this bike and would advise anyone else not to unless they could pay cash on collection which is not mentioned anywhere in the listing even then I would not go to pick it up alone just for security reasons.0 -
If the seller runs away with the money, all the buyer has to do is do an INR. If their money is not refunded, then all they have to do is threaten paypal by telling them you're going to the FSA0

Not true actually, as you are allowed to sell preorder items. http://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/policies/pre-sale.htmlTo sell anything on ebay you must own the item and have it ready for dispatch or local pick up straight away.
I don't really see the difference.eBay permits pre-sale listings only on a limited basis. The seller must guarantee that the item will be available for dispatch within 30 days from the date of purchase (i.e., the day the listing ends or the date the item is purchased from a shop front listing). The seller must also clearly indicate within the listing the fact that the item is a pre-sale item with a delivery date that indicates the item will be dispatched by the 30th day from the end date of the listing. Additionally, this text must be no less than the default font size of the eBay Sell-Your-Item form. Currently, the default font size is HTML font size 3This is my opinion. There are many others like it but this is mine:kisses2: Fiancee of the "lovely" DaveAshton :kisses2:I am a professional ebay seller. I work hard at my job, I love my job, if you think it's silly that's your problem not mine.

Someone got busted for fraud for selling computers on Ebay and then trying to win them once they were paid for.0 -
So what you would be buying is a receipt and will Halfords not require some sort of ID when you go to pick the bike up like the CC used to pay for it?
If I wanted to buy that I would agree in writing with the seller that payment would be made when both buyer and seller go to Halfords to collect the bike on the 27th.0
