A Scam by the Waterboard

If your roof water goes to soakaways this may interest you.

You may be paying too much to the Water board.

For many years our local Waterboard (Dwr Cymru/Welsh water) have stipulated on newly built properties the following planning condition :-

No surface water shall be allowed to connect(either directly or indirectly) to the public sewage system

This condition is enforced by Council inspection.

Now we discover that since our water billing commenced in 2003 we have been charged for surface water disposal by Welsh Water. I have had to claim a rebate and they have offered me 6.5% refund of my over payment. I am naturally taking this matter much further.

In my eyes anybody who charges for a service, that they knowingly have not provided; is scamming.

Secondly to offer you a 6.5% refund of the money so taken, is excessive profiteering; if not robbery.

For many years this Waterboard condition has been placed on 'new builds'. I'm not sure if this is nationally. If so, I suggest a lot of people may be overpaying . I've already discovered 2 other friends over paying.

Is the condition imposed on new builds in your area?

If so, are you being charged by the Waterboard for a service which they have refused to supply?

We soon realised when we moved here 6 years ago that we get a £5.00 reduction each year for roof water that goes to soakaways only...but you cannot get a reduction for having No road drains apparently....

Our estate in the East Midlands (Severn Trent) uses soakaways for rainwater, so we dont pay ST for this, the neighbours let me know when I moved in!
    Nice little saving.

A pit, filled with broken stones etc below ground to take drainage from rainwater pipes or land drains and allow it to disperse.
