Have tesco's own and asda's own and can't find any difference between that and the 'real thing'. In fact my partner regularly comments how there is little point in paying for a 'brand' when the other stuff is just as good.

Buy some own brand and put them in the Weetabix pack and see if he notices!

LOL, I'd do that too, once they're in the weetabix box there's no difference :D

Don't know if this is true or not, but I live near the Weetabix factory and a lot of locals work there. My daughter was telling me that they have people who sit there at the end of the production lines eating Weetabix, if it is not up to scratch it goes in a different packet. I did see a job ad a few years ago that was asking for such people, it said that you must have a good sense of taste and that there was a taste test for the job, so maybe it is true.

Hubby has had weetabix every morning for breakfast since we were married and that was in the 70's!!! So weetabix proper it has to be here I am afraid!

I have been eating Weetabix most days since the 80's. I recently discovered tesco and sainsbury own brand versions and can't tell the difference. So do as others have suggested and put some own brand in a Weetabix box - its worth doing as there's a big price difference.

I've been eating my Weetybangs (ahem) every morning ever since I can remember (and in the middle of the night as well through 2 pregnancies) and switched to Sainsbury's own brand shortly after No 1 son was born, to save a bit of money. I absolutely can't tell any difference, and I am very picky.

I don't live far from Burton Latimer - may go and ask them for a tour of the factory one day - there may be freebies at the end!

The way I thought it worked was, big companies make the product for the brand name and then used slightly different recipes for own brand .
In some cases that might be a simple as more water in a product or cheaper veg in say , a ready meal.

Sometimes but not always. Mr Spendless looked round a factory (think it was lager) the person showing him round said we do supermarkets own too, to which DH said how do you do that do you change the recipe and the man did this ;) and said "of course we do".

I used to be a buyer for a cash and carry but never ordered the grocery side but we used to get the reps to tell us which also supplied to the supermarkets. I'm wracking my brain but can't remember weetabix soz :o . I'd echo another poster and look thru the own brand hunt on shop don't drop
