Up 21,000 last month, to a total 2.49m.
Would be good to see the numbers even smaller each month. Hopefully we won't see a surge of newly unemployed after christmas.
Interesting that the number claiming JSA has dropped though!

The number of people unemployed in the UK rose by 21,000 between August and October to 2.49 million.
The increase was the smallest rise in the jobless total since the March-to-May period in 2008, Office for National Statistics (ONS) figures showed.
The unemployment rate is currently 7.9%, according to the ONS figures.
However, the number of people claiming unemployment benefit fell by 6,300 in November to 1.63 million, the first fall since February 2008.
Interesting that the number claiming JSA has dropped though!

Ermmm?
What a load of s word. You cant spin something getting worse as good news.0 -
6,300 less claiming jobseekers seems good to me - in the past 6 weeks my wife has (finally) found a job, my daughter has managed to change jobs and I've heard 2 tales of jobs being offered to people who have turned them down (at the last minute) because they have found something better elsewhere - only anecdotal but it helps restore confidence. It's nearly Christmas and time for seeing a glass as half full for a change.....imho.0

good news - the less people that are out of work the better0

3,000,000 by Christmas.
Cancelled.
Good news, in a way but still bad for those who have lost a job.0 -

Presumably that's people that have been on the dole too long to continue claiming JSA.0 -
When there's just one person left with a job ... then that month the most that can lose their jobs is one.0

Looks like the private sector shake out is almost over. Public sector shake out hasn't started yet. This will get much worse.0
