I have to say we had a glass table and only changed it to give us more space in our kitchen diner. It did scratch but nothing major and was a few years old. Cleaning it was no problem - white vinegar and water in a spray bottle wipe with a cloth and it was clean. I didn't find it showed up dust anymore than any other table.
Ours was from John Lewis and I think they still sell it.

My Mum and Dad have had a glass dining table for years...it still looks good, hardly any scratches on it at all

I guess things were just better made back in the day:confused::A

I have a glass and wood coffee table and find it needs cleaning much more often than a wood one. We also have black bedside tables in the bedroom and the same with those, will be spray painting them white in the summer!

I also have a wrought iron & glass table & love it! The chairs have even stood up to the welly they get in this house with the kids :D Had it 4 years now and it isn't scratched. I clean it with a homemade mixture of vinegar, washing up liquid & water in an old spray bottle & it comes up lovely :T The legs of it all sort of meet in the middle underneath and they drive me mad to clean but not the table surface itself.

sounds like mine, i have had it about 8 years is a bit scratched but still comes up lovely when cleaned and my 2 girls have tried there hardest bless em its had cars whizzed on it,crafting done etc but still comes up lovely every time and looks good too

I have a glass desk from John Lewis and it has not scratched despite daily use for around 3yrs - it has taken hot plates, books, things dropped on it etc.

I had one once, it drove me insane without a cloth, it didn't scratch, but instantly showed dust, I found myself cleaning it 3 times a day! It was smoked glass too!

I have an extendable glass table - we use mats and coasters, so it doesn't get scratched. They certainly give an impression of more space, as you see through rather than at them.
Bottoms of cups scratch glass very easily.
  • We have an extendable table with a glass top. We use table mats too. It has picked up one or two minor scratches but my main bugbear is that crumbs etc. get inbetween the edges of the glass top and the dark "wenge finish" wooden frame it sits in. You can only get them out if you lift out the glass, and I don't like doing this too often in case I drop it or something. We have a ceramic tiled floor.
