Although my unlocked K800i is now on Virgin mobile, the internet icon still shows Orange World. I have updated the settings from the Virgin website but this makes no difference as the message I get says 'the page you are trying to access is only available via your Orange ... etc.' Do I need to get the phone de-branded to get mobile internet access?

Are you contacting/connecting to the orange homepage everytime? It might be your internet icon is actually the shortcut to orange world, rather than just to the internet application.
Have you tried to see if you can browse to another site like https://www.google.com and see if it works?Although no trees were harmed during the creation of this post, a large number of electrons were greatly inconvenienced.

I can't open anything as there is no option to type in another web address. It just goes straight to 'Orange World'.0

You need the settings for Virgin, the phone by the sound of it was on Orange and it's still trying to connect through them (which won't work).
Call Virgin CS and they'll text you settings for internet, wap and MMS and everything will then work...0 -
. . . I have the virgin settings but still it will not work.0

Is the "Internet" (world symbol) on the main page?
I was looking at how to access the internet on your phone "Connect to Internet", and it should give you an option to enter a URL before keeling over - http://www.sonyericsson.com/cws/support/phones/detailed/trythephone/k800i?cc=gb&lc=enAlthough no trees were harmed during the creation of this post, a large number of electrons were greatly inconvenienced.

It sounds like the phone is flashed to be an orange handset, this means that the setting are essentially hard coded into the phone. You might have another icon for just internet or wap, have a look at your menu options.
Otherwise:
Try getting a software update from the sony erricson website0 -
The Virgin setting are on there, but are they set as the active setting ? If they've just been loaded on that dosen't mean that the phones using them unless they've been set as the default profile.0
