Why does my PC Bleep at me?

Ok it doesn't appear to be a regular bleep - ie not every 5 mins. Its Usually while its not being used if one of the kids has gone to get a drink or something. The pc does a double bleep (sorry can't explain it very well). Its not a sound coming through the speakers cos it still makes the noise if the speakers are switched off. Its coming from the tower unit itself. Not sure I've explained it very well.
Banana Lovers
Buy your bananas in bunches of 5 on Sunday. Then arrange them in order of ripeness and write a day of the week on each banana in felt pen, Monday on the ripest, Friday on the greenest to save time making those decisions on a hectic weekday morning

Its probably something going bad
maybe RAM or PSU

Watch that, its a guide to installing RAM, now what you need to do is open up your case, follow the instructions, remove all Ram chips and place ONE back in (if you only have on just place that in). If the beeping persists then try the other stick of RAM, or borrow another chip of somebody else to try.
If beeping persists, its not the RAM. But thats your best bet to begin with. Also, whilst your in your case, get rid of all dust with a can of compressed air.
Also, is your computer keeping the time correctly when you first boot up?
If not it may be the CMOS battery which is a small watch type battery on the motherboard that can be replaced with one of the same part number from poundland.Back by no demand whatsoever.0 -
They doe sound just like the beep you hear at boot up. Is it a warning that something is failing on it? Pc is about 10 months old.Banana LoversBuy your bananas in bunches of 5 on Sunday. Get on to the manufacturer, they may provide more advice, try my suggestions first if you want, it may be simple, if not send it away for repair.Back by no demand whatsoever.0 -
it could be something updating as i have known some antivirus software (can't remember what exactly) that bleeps when it has successfully updated. I found that out when had a room full of them doing it (ie 10 - 15 PCs).0

It beeps coz you aren't paying attention to it
.
May be it comes from your screensaver or when it goes to 'snooze' mode. If you hear something similar at bootup, then it might be to do with your motherboard, RAM or probably your casing's power unit.
But, I think it won't be that grave as the system boots properly.0 -
Your computer just doesn't like you anymore and because it has inbult nanny software its beeps out all the rude insults it's giving you.

Have you ever known a computer to beep whilst already fully booted up, due to bad RAM or faulty PSU? I sure never have.4743hudsonj wrote: »Its probably something going bad

I would say its software causing the beep; screensaver, or some other program. Any program can generate a system beep.0 -
Could be overheating. I would recommend taking the side off and sucking/blowing all the dust out (With it isolated obviously):idea:0
