Return of dodgy sander

Options
Hi everyone

Glad to be part of this great and useful website

Dont know if anyone can help but i would really appreciate any advice on this.

Bought a sander on the 11th Nov.
A part of it broke off and i returned it last week....8th Dec.

Would not refund / exchange.
They sent item to manufacturer to see what they would do; fix/ exchange /refund.

Doesnt seem right to me .
It has been a week now and i still have not heard anything.

Have they acted correctly or couyld I have a full refund as it is within the 4 week period.

Im trying to keep cool with this lot but its difficult when they are so ignorant!!!!

Much appreciate any replies on this.

All the best

What reason did they give to refuse? Who is the retailer?
  • Hi Tozer

retailer is a local firm called Tipadels.

basically said it was down to the manufacturer.

so they sent it to them..and like I say ive heard nothing.

Need to keep my cool when I return as I want a refund.

Just trying to find out if im entitled to one or not.

Thanks for your quick reply by the way

Fobbed you off! Your contract is with them, not the manufacturer.
  • This is what I have been thinking.

So do you think Im entitled to full refund

Not really, he returned it to them and they sent to manufacturer to be looked at.

OP - they are allowed to do that - unless they state it, there's no legal 28-day period in which you are entitled to exchange/refund.
    Squirrel!
If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.

Just out of interest, which part broke off?

Parts tend not to break off without excessive force.
  • It was the metal clip that holds on the sandpaper.

    make was Ryobi.

Not the best but not the cheapest either.

    thanks for replies folks.

    Looks like i have to wait and see;

seems like they are acting within the law.

Just doesnt sem right when there are firms out there who replace things with no fuss.

A lot of firms who exchange or refund with no fuss are acting above and beyond what the law requires them to do, and choose to as an gesture of goodwill. A good example is Argos's money back policy, which everyone seems to think is the law and applies to all retailers.

I thought this thread was about a tradesman who had done a poor job of sanding someone's floor and then had come back for some reason!!!!!

I don't think it unacceptable for company to want to get an item tested out before deciding whether to refund/repair/exchange, for all they know it could be your fault(not saying it is). They've got a profit line to protect staff wages to pay taxes ect.
