Are Sony having a laugh?

Ok so I was playing on my PS3 when suddenly it frooze and switched off. So I tried to turn it back on and now all I get is a flashing red light , I done some research to find out my PS3 is broke and needs to be fixed.

So I rang Sony and they told me I have to pay £120 & send them my old PS3 and they will send me a refurbished one.

Are they having a laugh? They will just refurbished the broke PS3 for like £50 ( if that ) and just conn the next person who rings up. So basically they are taking over £200 off me.

Any ways I can get around this charge ( or get it for free some how )

I have heard about more Xbox's go wrong (rings of death), than I have PS3's.

It's like the standard issue answer for Windows problems. You should have bought a mac/used linux.
However MS do at least repair RROD upto 3 years from purchase I think it is.

As they should due to their extremely high failure rate

Indeed they do. However, unlike Sony, MS acknowledged the problem and extended the warranty to 3 years and offer a free collect and deliver service.

They had to as they had/have such a hugh failure rate

  • Yeah apparantly there are more rings of death on the Xbox, b/f is on
    his 4th one.

However with the Xbox you can remove the hard drive, so you can
save your game data, but you cant with the PS3.

It does seem very unfair of Sony to charge owners so much to fix
the PS3 and am I correct in thinking that you get another recon
box not a new one, just like the Xbox's ?
