lack of disabled toilets

not just a rant about saturday but a rant in general.
lets start with saturday.
yes there was a 'disabled' entrance to hyde park to see the foos but i presumed you had to callahead to use this entrance and fully expected that there would be other disabled toilets throughout the venue. not the case. see post on 5 star service board. but the next time i needed the loo i couldnt see the woman from the previous time and had to queue for half an hour. something i shouldnt be doing (standing, hence why we sat at the back of the concert so i could sit at least). the only disabled toilets were at the disabled 'platform' which were really far over the other side of the venue.
other disabled toilets rant - some restaurants and pubs i find have the door locked and you have to go and queue at the bar/till and request someone to either give you the key or open the door for you. i find it degrading enough having to get whoever im with to do everything for me (most annoying is getting them to cut up my meal much to the amusement of other diners who are narrow minded) without having to request someone to give me the key or open the toilet door of the disabledtoilet for me.
i know peopleabuse the fact theres a disabledtoilet but i find it degrading though ive gotten over people pointing/staring/sniggering at my inability to do stuff they take for granted.

There's someone in my head, but it's not me

made a post on your other thread, probably should have put it here.
its all down to ignorance. small-mindedness. i say let these people feel what its like to have a disability for a day. they might not be so quick to have a stupid giggle then, because someone needs help cutting food up. or going to the toilet. it really really does f***ing aggravate me. im 23 and take each and every person as i find them. if i walk through town and i see some ignorant little sh*t lauging at someone with a disability i have a tendancy to be a little vocal with them. if these stupid vicky pollard type parents tried educating their kids that sometimes they meet people who are different then we wouldnt get this. and for all the adults that feel a need to make fun then they need to grow up. as for companies not catering for the disabled, id just carry on naming and shaming them. its downright disgusting.
its about time people started having more respect for others. as if having a disability isnt bad enough, i know most dont want an expression of sympathy for it but they dont need to be ridiculed in such ways.
im absolutely pi**ed off with going to asda and finding able bodied people and taxi drivers (ps i could turn the air blue talking about them) parked in disabled bays and then theres some old missus parked miles away because there wasnt a vacant one for her to use. there really is no justice in this world. having not got a disability and knowing i can take comfort in the fact i dont use disabled facilities. it makes me feel better knowing that the above mentioned imbeciles wouldnt be so smug if they were in your shoes.
anyway thats my rant over. im getting a bleeding headache now.0 -

There were actually disabled toilets in the normal blocks of toilets (or at least there were in the mens) but it all depended on when you went as to how long you had to wait, after QOTSA the wait was at least half an hour. But thats what happens when there's a limited ammount of stuff to go around 85,000 peopleTitch

In defence of some shops, and this MAy apply to other places but maybe not-Many stores have a problem with disabled toilets because drug users use them for injecting, because the users know they can be better undisturbed in their than the other cubicles(injecting can take about 20 mins) I have witnessed toilets with blood spurted up the walls and syringes on the floor which is not pleasant. In stores they have sometimes had to get a lock fitted with a key where there was not one before because of this.0

I thought a lot of these places have the radar key system (or something named something along those lines) so you had "the key" yourself and could use it in all establishments that operate the system?
Queuing for 30 minutes to go to the toliet at a gig really isnt that bad in my opinion. The OH went to a take that concert the other night (yes I am considering divorcing her for it;) ) and the Q for the ladies was about 45 minutes.
I am not disabled and obviously am glad I am not but there has to be the question of how much balance that should be struck between treating you like a "normal" person and making special allowances to cater for your needs. An Ex was a vegan and as such there were very few resturants that we could go to and yet their is no outcry about resturants not being forced to serve foods suitable for all peoples diets but find a resturant without proper facilities for disabled people and their name becomes mud.
Why is it acceptable not to go with the economic decision not to have food for customers with special dietry requirements but not acceptable to go with the economic decision that the orange pound is too not viable to pursue? (from a moral rather than legislative perspective)
As others have said, disabled toliets are abused, whilst you are complaining about having to get a key I am sure you would also be complaining if you had gone in and found used needles/ condoms etc.All posts made are simply my own opinions and are neither professional advice nor the opinions of my employers

Not all places do anymore unfortunatly, they have their own keys.Accept that some days you're the pigeon and some days you're the statue.0 -
EasilyAggravated - sorry to say but a lot the rude ignorant people are disabled themselves but judge other disabled person on their appearance. My sister, who is registered disabled, was abused by an elderly lady for using the disabled toilet in M&S. My sister has her own radar key to use these facilities. However this woman assumed because she is early 40's and looks 'normal' that she was abusing the use of the disabled toilet. My sister was mortified and mumbled before leaving the area but I went back and told the old hag when she came out of the loo that being old was not an excuse for being so rude and would she like to tell me what her disability was as she didn't look very disabled to me, just elderly. She said she had angina, probably from smoking the fags she stunk of. I wanted to ask her how that qualified her for using disabled facilities, but my good upbringing prevented me from doing so, and I merely pointed out that my sister was in far more need than her in that case as she has to catherterise her self!!

People don't choose to be disabled. Veganism is a choice (and IMHO a daft one at that).0 -
