    Hi Mike,

I work in Internet Support myself. I would check in this order. I know some of it sounds obvious

Thanks Stebiz - but I think your info is really for 'Purplepatch' ....the one with (the parents with) the problem!;)

Just know that I've had problems with 'call waiting' and after they've been away a month ...it seems a real possibility? Particularly if it was working right up to the off.

    d) Does it say disabled if so right click and enable, Does it say Limited or no connectivity (win XP issue - restart modem to force Ip address)

    Thanks Stebiz.

All ok until point d when apparently it didn't mention anything about disabled and enable wasn't there as an option  Just said that it was disconnected. It's difficult as I'm having to relay instructions over the phone and can't see it for myself.

Clear Cookies / temp files and try again. And ..... check there is no (1571) call waiting. although that would normally signal 'no dial tone'?

Cleared them and no call waiting. Still not working.

    Hi
Have you phoned f2s, they can check your parents line to see if there's a fault. Good luck though, because its pretty hard to get through to them, and raising tickets is pointless, because they never seem to answer them.

I'd give their tech support a ring, be prepared for a long wait though.

Tried that today and was 16 in the queue. Sat there waiting for 15 mins only to be told still at place 16! Nightmare.

Try this for a mo, Start, Run, type cmd then type ipconfig /release then wait a mo then type ipconfig /renew

Yes thats a space inbetween the g and / for both commands.

Just to update that they phoned f2s and after an hour wait to get through, f2s decided it was a problem with BT and said they would contact them. Within a couple of hours all back up and running again.

No idea what caused this. Do BT do something to a line that hasn't been used for some time??

Probably BT just unplugged their line from broadband hub!!! That's stupid - why should they unplug people having a holiday?
