Can anyone point me in the direction of some mittens please??!!
My son is almost 7 & has Hypermobility Syndrome. He has major problems getting gloves on even when he has help. He doesnt get help at school as often as he should & he has been complaining that he has cold hands & wants some gloves that have no fingers
. Anyway we figured out that he meant mittens!
The only ones I have found are on ebay & I really cant afford to pay £12 for gloves as he will only loose them.
I would normally knit some for him but I'm not able to as I have Fibromyalgia & HMS and am suffering rather badly at the moment. By the time I manage to make him any it'll be springtime at the earliest!:o
So any pointers as to where I can get any please?

Have you tried your local market? Ours has mittens from about £2.50 a pair. Otherwise, do you know anybody who can knit them for you? You could contact your local wool shop and ask if they have anybody who would be willing to do this if you pay for the wool.
Another alternative is to ask the Children with Disabilkities team at your local council to refer your son to an occupational therapist, who might be able to supply mittens for you. I'm not saying they will, but it could be worth asking.0 -
Now, I've not been in for a couple of months, but... Primark had ladies mittens in an assortment of colours including black. They might be a little big, but then again maybe not too much. (being plain black and once you've removed the tag he, and his friends would be none the wiser ) They were only a couple of quid (don't remember exactly but most of the plain gloves were under £5), and the kid's dept might be even cheaper.
It's only a game

Have a look in Sainsbury's I purchased some fingerless gloves at the weekend that also had a special pouch sewn into them that you could lift over the fnger part which then gave you the option to either have normal gloves or fingerless gloves.
I have looked on the web site but can't see them but have found these ones

I was thinking ............ it would be easier for him if they were knitted and had no fingers at all (like arm warmers) .. I have looked for arm warmers but cant see many in "boy" colours - but what about leg warmers that you could use for his hands ?? Primark do leg warmers for about £2 and they come in differnt sizes so would not have to be too long ! From experience, I wear gloves that have no fingers at all(just a thumb) and they are VERY warm !I have had brain surgery - sorry if I am a little confused sometimes

Thanks Taz0 -
do you not get DLA for him? I get it for my son who has behaviour/sensory issues as well as other conditions requiring lots of laundry being done and is very difficult to clothe. The DLA covers these needs.Member no.1 of the 'I'm not in a clique' group :rotfl:

Another option might be to contact your local knitting group or WI when you've worked out what works best for him. There may well be a member who would be only too pleased to help. I looked in my sewing drawer yesterday and felt such a pang when I saw my pile of knitting needles and embroidery threads (cfs in my case but very painful, have often wondered how exactly they decide who has what!)Eat food.
