Payments taken 4 weeks later?

Hi I hope someone can help!

I bought some items from simply be over 5 weeks ago and paid with debit card.

It all went through fine and the items arrived with me 2 days later.

Now 5 weeks ago there was money in my bank to cover this. I was told it had been taken and the payment came up as authorised.

Then just last week I logged on to my bank only to see I was OD!?

Simply Be had taken the payment 4 weeks and 4 days after I had recived my goods and they had told me payment had been taken.

Checked my bank and they hadnt taken it at the time.

The other thing is the charged me individually for each item!
£2.99 for P&P
£12.20
£14.48
£34.00

So i called my bank and they were as much use a chocolate tea pot and said that they can take the money any time in a 12 month period!?!

Oh and that I would get a charge for each payment! So £30 x4!

So called simly be and the advisor usless! Said that thats how they do it now in the past 12 months the take each payment seperatly!

By this point I was fuming!
So asked to talk to a manager and he said one will call you back

So got a call back and I expalined the situation he said that it was very strange that they took they payments individaully and that that was not normal if they were all sent together (the clothes) and they were!

So he said when I get my letters about charges to call and they will look into and they may or may not pay my charges!

Now im really peed off! It doesnt say anywhere that they take payments individaully or that it takes 4 weeks to take the payments!

Im still waiting for the letters and will send them but im really annyoued that for there mistake or error I have to do the running about and pay the charges in the mean time!

My bank are being really useless and wont hold the charges or anything!

Has anyone heard of any of this before or have any advice for dealing with it!?

I work in a call center myself so im pretty up on that and standing my ground but I just got stone walled by the manager every time I asked a question!

It is not totally unusual for a delay from when the transaction is authorised and when it is debited from your account balance. Legally they have 6 years to claim the money IIRC. Did you not notice that the money had not left your account?

Simply be will not request for payment until the items are charged to your account. They will take the payment as indvidual transactions etc.

You dont really have a case with Simply Be as it is your responsibilty to check the funds have debited your account.

If im told that a payment has been taken I take that as a payment has been taken. I dont check my account as I presumed it had been they told me it had been.

I dont have an account I paid by my card and the money was supposidly taken there and then!

The items were dispatched 2 days after they said payment has been taken. They said when I called that payment would be taken when Items were dispatched this was not the case.

They have already said that they would not take payments individauly if they were all dispatched at the same time and they were!

I fail to see how im in the wrong for not checking my account, when I pay for something and they say payment has been authorised I take that as the payment has been taken.

I can understand a delay of a few days or a week but 4 weeks thats taking the mick!

Everyone has an account that thing you quote when you call A1234567 is your account number so you do have an account.

The payments are pre authorised when you place an order. If Simply Be dont complete the transaction within 4-5 day your bank will release the funds back to your available balance to spend.

So the Simply Be advisor was right at that time the payment was authorised but not complete as the items had not been despatched. They generally get charged once the items have been despatched or possibly after in your case. They always take the payment as individual payments for each item purchased.

Well that may be admitting to something they dont have too.

As retailers have upto 6 years to complete a transaction and there within there right to claim any funds within that 6 year period.

Im sure you would agree that this is something that does not happen very often. (taking 6 years to take payment)

I have been banking for 15 years and must have paid with my debit card thousands of times and have never had money taken this long after the transaction.

I dont want to sound that im being helpful and hope you get the issue resolved to your advantage.

However from my 7 years of banking experience ive seen the situation many times, Ive never known it to take 6 years i must admit.

However ive been in the same situation myself. I stayed at the hilton in gateshead for a friends wedding and the hilton did not take my payment until nearly 4 months after

Well thanks for your advice and I realise what you are saying.
I think the thing that is bothering me more is the conflicting information from simply be that is bothering me.
I hate calling somehere with an issue and they are so rude and unhelpful! If I spoke to people like that in my job I would be sacked!

Yeah I appreciate it can very frustrating when one persons tell you one thing and someone else is telling you another.

Id wait and see what information the Manager can provide you over the issues you have encountered.
