After 4 years??? Not likely, why didn't you just let the payment go through, open an Item Not Received in 2005, and get refunded then.

Or, it's the word of one person against another, especially if the V5 etc have already been signed over to the other person. In that case, the OP's no longer the rightful owner of the vehicle.

  • Just as an update, we have sought legal advice and we are currently awaiting a response from Paypal to why precisely they took the money from us.

Also, this is not a matter for the police as this is fraud, not theft. It is a legal matter that will have to be settled in court.

As you have been told Paypal took the money off you because you couldn't prove delivery. This is written in the Paypal T&Cs. Paypal seller protection policies HERE

The reason you lost the money is a lack of understanding of how paypal works and not checking that you didnt have to offer paypal in ebay motors. You will not get anywhere with paypal as they have adhered to all policies your only option is to look at the Small claims court
  • It was not the legal advisor who said it was fraud, but the police said that it is not a matter for them -- it has to be taken to court.

Whilst I appreciate you are trying to help, repeatedly telling me I am stupid does not really help the situation.

Just because someone writes something in a set of terms and conditions does not make it legal or let you off the hook for participating in defrauding money.

    From Paypal Site:

However, there are some transactions that we do not cover including but not limited to payments for intangible items, services, real estate, businesses, vehicles (including, without limitation, motor vehicles, motorcycles, caravans, aircraft and boats),
