Nokia Retail terms and conditions

I am looking to buy the N900 from Nokia Retail who are operated by Mobile Phones Direct. There is a term in the conditions of sale I have noticed from all the Carphone Warehouse subsidiaries which means I cannot downgrade a contract in the minimum term (which I take to mean I am stuck on whatever price plan for the entire contract length - anything up to 24 months).

I cannot see anything on the Nokia Retail site that locks me into such a term - in other words they cannot stop me changing tariff so long as Vodafone allow me to - but can anyone else advise me if I am likely to hit 9 months then be able to change tariff like most others can on Vodafone?

I have emailed them to ask, but advice in the interim is appreciated, TIA.
