Why did you choose your degree?

was the only course i could go into with my HND0

I wanted to do mechanical engineering as I wanted to go into automotives. Ended up doing post grad work with Ford, then moved into off-highway vehicles, more fun than cars.
Finance was not a factor when I chose what to read and where. I studies in London.Hoping this year is better than the last.0 -
Jurassic Park.. the book not the movie. Got me interested in the science around genetics - so i did a degree in Genetics followed up by a MSc in Bioinformatics (Which would make me the fat evil one in the film).
I only ever got to genetically engineer bacteria, not dinosaurs. Pity.0 -
I chose French and Spanish because it was the only thing I didn''t NOT want to do.

I did MMath cos I was a maths geek (still am a little bit)!
finance did not pay any part in my choice, nor did future career possibilities, I just loved maths and wanted to study it for a few more years (though like giantmutantbroccoli, I did want to be a rocket scientist when I was younger)
you've got to do something you're passionate about0 -
I did graphic design, but i wasn't too influenced by finance. Banking might have been a better option though!0

In my second year of a History & Politics degree, Love the History but the Politics is gettin dropped next year. Chose it cause I'm completely fascinated by history ! An i thought Politics might 'open up more oppertunities when I graduate' (But it's seriously not worth the boredum!). I love the look on peoples faces when I tell them i'm studying history, some people judge a book by its cover yah know ? Not that I look completely un-intellegent or anything (at least I hope I dont), but they dont associate me as the kind of person into history. In a way I suppose im a closet geek
! Anyway, back to subject, I live in Glasgow so the lovely Scottish Gov pay my fees for me .
Whats meant to be will always find its way...;)0 -
I chose computer science & technology, because i love computer.0

At the age of 35+ I went for advice to my local careers person, and was advised that with my 'O' levels I could go into an art or maths course- only the maths courses would be funded. So no choice really- was trying to find a job that would pay more than £2.50 an hour to keep a roof over our heads.
But - once I touched a computer I knew I had found my friend for life - all be it a temperamental, sometimes annoying friend.
So, while money drove my choices, it was the right choice for me.[STRIKE]Fed up of being kippered by kids - new resolve - the NO word. Still at this[/STRIKE] Dam they struck again!!
Stay focused on the bigger plan - :rolleyes:0 -
i had a bit of a dilemma with choices. i originally applied for english and history joint honours, got some offers, but realised through the interview process that it was something i was very good at but didn't truly enjoy (certainly at that point in time... i miss english literature SO much now and still wonder if i made the right decision). so i considered reapplying for just english or law. had a nightmare about it, booked in for my lnat, and after sitting the lnat realised that law was what i wanted to study. that i enjoyed the challenge and seemed well suited to it.
i got several offers, and i was boosted by the fact that prestigious universities that had rejected me for english/history were accepting me for law. so that's really how it all came about! it was a little bit influenced by teenage aspirations - ever since i was 12 or so i'd wanted to be a lawyer. and then journalist. and then lawyer again.
i'm not going to lie, finances were a consideration. i wanted a career with prospects; granted, post-recession those prospects are greatly reduced, but it's luckily a degree that won't close many doors. i've still got a lot of options open to me, and i don't regret studying something that i enjoy. i get a kick out of studying the law; in everyday life i understand the legal relationships going on, and that interests me.Comping since August 2022
