Parking Ticket - Wrong number plate

  • Does the letter tell you anything more? Could you post the letter up, removing all personal info (I still recommend you remove the ticket you've posted and blank out your car reg and the ticket no.)

The letter has the right registration. Sgould I ask for photographic evidence?
  • You may want to ask on pepipoo.com just because it's a fixed penalty notice and a bit more serious than a normal parking ticket. I believe you can ask for photographic evidence, but I'm not sure what stage you're at (is it a Notice to Owner you received?) You have to be very careful and sure that you want to appeal this though. I think an unpaid fixed penalty notice results in going to magistrates court, and losing there results in a criminal conviction - hence my advice to ask on pepipoo.
  • Thanks for the advice. I will look ot up now :)
  • Forget appealing a FPN, they will go to magistrates court and thats a whole new ball game. Always recommended to go to issuing cop shop with sob story, if they don't fall for it just pay up. Its far to much greif this close to xmas. Usually fpn's are cheaper than council ones for you could say its MSE.

    Hi,
I've just also been given a ticket with the wrong numberplate quoted. Doh, just overlooked that Sat/Sun was no parking rather than the two hours usually permitted. My dumb mistake.
But the traffic warden has given me an out, as this ticket has not been issued for my car. He may have meant to, and I was parked there at the wrong time, but with the wrong number on it, he has given it to a.n.other or no one at all if this wrong number does not exist.
Here at our Council's website, they post the pictures as evidence and that quite clearly shows that my car did not get the ticket as my car has a different number that the car on the ticket. Also, if you challenge the ticket, the "discount period" to pay at a cheaper rate starts again at the end of the challenge, so if nothing, I have bought myself some time.
So if my car didn't get the ticket, it is invalid.
Have written to the Council and told them just that.
Will keep you all posted how this develops. ;)

It would have been just as easy (and more MSE) to have left it up to the council to try to give you an nto which would not get to you. As you say the wrong vrm invalidates the pcn so it would have saved you the cost of the stamp. Now they know about the wrong vrm its possible they will try to reissue with the correct number but that would be chucked out if it got to patas.

Yep PCN is invalid if vrm is invalid. Can not get an address from DVLA if vrm wrong.

Has peter_the_piper said don't waste the cost of a stamp telling them.

One thing well worth a check is, if your vrm as a o or a 0, CEO's get this wrong all the time ;)
