Parking Ticket - Wrong number plate

I was rushed into hospital back in September and instead of traveling with me in the ambulance my mother drove herself to the hospital and parked where she could. Unfortunately this was in a resident premits holders zone. When she returned to the car she had gotten a ticket.
We put together a letter stating the circumstances, but just before we sent it, we noticed that the number plate on the ticket was a digit out, it had an "O" where a "U" should have been. I am sure I have read before that this means the ticket is invalid so we ignored it.
A letter came the other day saying that she had failed to pay it and it needs to be paid?
Does anyone know if this ticket is invalid and what we can do about it?

who issued the ticket. and can you scan the ticket and post less your personal details so someone on here can advise you further.
many people on here with far greater knowledge than myself who will help you if shown the ticket.0 -
Are you sure the digit was wrong. I dont understand how they got your address to send you a letter.
They get addresses from DVLC and they would have looked for the address which related to the reg no. of the car (the wrong reg no. relating to your address)make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
Thanks. It's definitely the wrong digit. I also don't understand how they traced the address though. That's why we ignored it, because we didn't think they would be able to get the address. I will definitely scan the ticket later on as I am going to work soon.0

Unfortunately they may have sent this letter,
""We put together a letter stating the circumstances, but just before we sent it, we noticed that the number plate on the ticket was a digit out, it had an "O" where a "U" should have been. I am sure I have read before that this means the ticket is invalid so we ignored it.""
This may be damning but others may be able to say otherwise.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0 -
sorry p the p, i assumed that when they said 'before we sent the letter'
that they hadnt sent it at all, especially when they noticed a digit missing.
But see post 4 where they say they dont know how they got the address.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

Ooops, it looks like you're right. Still worth seeing the pcn and "letter" though. Was the second letter an NTO? If so it looks as if they have got the right person.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

We didn't send that letter at all. It has taken them a while though so I can only assume that they have tried different digits. I will post the ticket now.0

Not sure posting up your car reg is the best idea, it's probably worth blanking that out! I think the most important thing is that it's not a normal PCN, it's from the police and I don't think these tickets are as 'appealable' as normal ones.
They could well have put the wrong reg on your ticket, but put the right reg in their log book or whatever they use when they're issuing these things.0 -
If this is a council PCN then the wrong VRN is fatal. In such circumstance keep hold of the original PCN at all costs.
If it is a Private Parking Company matter then the standard advice applies.0 -
What would te procedure be for appealing this? should I write a letter to them?0
