Should Danny and Sandy move seats?

I appreciate it would be a real choker for those who paid full whack for a good seat if cheapos moved into them at the request of the theatre, but if you do it discreetly, they arent to know you didnt pay the same price as they did.0

Absolutely NOT! This makes my blood boil! Everyone else has spotted those empty seats, too, and everyone else would like them. They've all thought about moving up and are teetering on the edge of their seats, but realise to do so would be to disrespect everyone else. To take them is as bad as pushing to the front of a queue. The only way to uphold decency here is to leave the empty seats and for everyone to have the seats they've paid for. If anyone does this, they should know they have soured the evening for everyone else, and have proved themselves to be disgraceful, ignorant and selfish.
What? So just because lots of people want the free seats - no one should have them?
Does it really make you that angry to see someone else having a nice time? Cheer up!!0 -
They bought their tickets at a really low price, knowing they will get what they paid for, so NO they shouldn't move seats. Restricted view doesn't mean NO view!!! If they wanted a decent seat, they should have bought more expensive tickets.0

We do this every time - always wait till the interval though.0

Yes, of course they should move into the better seats. Obviously, if people with tickets for those seats arrive then they would have to move back to the seats that they had paid for.0

Maybe you should.

Try buying a standard ticket on a train and then occupy a first class seat and see how the law treats you. Doing the same in a theatre is no different.
As you know so much about law why are you bringing up train tickets? They are covered under specific Acts irrelevant to this scenario.
As for this scenario being theft, that's for a court to decide. Proving someone acted dishonestly, with the intention of depriving of a service that is otherwise un-used is tricky.IMHO is clearly is not theft (It could be under certain circumstances, but given what we know it isn't). Feel free to post links to any court judgments suggesting otherwise. Good luck.0 -
Wow so many self righteous people here today...
You buy a theater ticket - you get a theater seat. Easy. Once the show has started and you are sure that an empty seat will not be used what is the harm with moving seats? You are not depriving anyone else of anything so what is the big deal? It is definitely NOT theft despite what some earlier posters have said.
The main argument against moving that I have seen can be summarized as "I would be jealous that you got a better deal than me"
Yes, jealousy is an attractive emotion...0 -
Yes, my friends and I do this frequently where it is appropriate and won't disrupt anyone. The last time we did it, we were in a certain section of the theatre where all the seats were the same price, but we were on the side where the huge speakers were.
When we could we moved. After the first interval the people we had moved next to came to say they'd moved back to be with some relatives. So we moved into their seats. Very kind of them, and we enjoyed the performance far more for moving away from the speakers.

I am surprised anybody would not. I would and have (in the interval), it's simple just ask a steward if it's OK. They'll say yes.0
