How much is RAM

If you need older RAM look on ebay, there's tons of it floating about.0

I would doubt if your PC could hold an additional 2GB of RAM. This would more likely be 2 sticks of 1GB and your PC probably only has 2 slots, so the old 512MB would be ditched.
£100 is really a rip off, is it PC World? If your PC is pretty old then just Ebay it £20-£30 max, use the crucial memory guide to make sure you know what your ordering. Fitting RAM is an absolute doddle. Do you remember the old kids toy where you had to put the square peg in the square hole?
You may well want to consider a new PC ...
The likes of ebuyer http://www.ebuyer.com/ and dabs http://www.dabs.com/ (to name just 2) will do a cheap base unit (no screen etc) from around £200 upwards, including a Windows license.
Much higher spec than you have at the moment, without the messing around.0 -

My local computer shop reckons about £100ish for an additional 2gb of RAM, but that seems expensive to me. Can anyone give me any idea how much I should be looking to pay and/or recommend anywhere to get it?
Thanks!
If you using only one of the ram slots then just a one 512 meg slot of ram would give you 1 gig ram plus it could run dual channel so the ram would run faster.. Could pick up 512 meg ram for about £10 if its got 2x 256 meg then buy 2x1gig ram or 2x512 meg ram...
computer shop do change a lot for upgrades as people go to get ram upgrade and then take it back when the hard drive die and say it was down to the computer shop as they upgraded the ram
so they add extra to cover this.. 2 gig for laptop is about £40-50 desktop £30-40 maybe less 0 -
What did Crucial Checker report?0
-
Did the crucial scanner and it found that I had three spare slots - they recommended getting an additional 2gb of DDR ram and that would cost £79. I ended up getting 1gb locally for £30 and TBH that has made a tremendous difference. I am thinking of getting a new computer after Christmas anyway as this one still runs windows XP so I think I will hold off on getting anymore for now. Thanks for the information everyone!Jane

The Crucial scanner isnt always accurate. Sometime it will tell you you have 4 slots that can take 1GB sticks giving a 4GB maximum. For example my Dell motherboard it does this, I think because that's what Dell states is the maximum. But in fact you can fill it with 2GB sticks no problem and it recognises it all (obviously you need a 64-bit OS).0
