Help needed - 3 contract!
Hello. I am looking for some help. A couple of weeks ago I got a letter from a debt collection company, telling me that 3 had sold a debt on a previous phone contract I had with them on to the debt company.
I called 3 and was told that they no longer had details of the account since they had sold the debt on. I then called the debt company who said that they only knew about the debt, and it related to my use of the phone between 2005 and 2008.
The contract in question was cancelled by me, after paying all charges via direct debit, back in 2006. What I am guessing has happened is that 3 didn't actually cancel the previous contract in 2006, despite my signing up to a new contract with them, which I am still using.
3 also knew that I had moved to my new address, over three years ago, but have never written to me about this alleged debt. The letter from the debt company (addressed to my new address) came out of the blue.
They are claiming £240.00! What can I do? Since the old contract was cancelled (as far as I was aware) three years ago, I no longer have statements etc.
