Sky Plus Problems

Options
Hi All,

My Sky Plus box seems to have given up the ghost last night and I don't know what to do. I tried to press record and a message came up saying the record option wasn't working at the moment and to press select to reset the box, I did this and the box turned off completely and hasn't been back on since. The red light is on so power is going to the box and I can hear it making a noise. I have tried turning it off at the plug for 3 mins and turning it back on but it stays on red.

I have rung a few local repair places and nobody seems to fix sky boxes. Any ideas or suggestions about what I can do?

Thanks.

Are you still within your original 12 month contract ? If so Sky will fix the problem free of charge. If not and they are wanting to charge you ridiculous prices to repair it tell them you will cancel your subscription and move to another supplier, i know this does not always work with everyone but it has always done for me.

    Good Luck :T

After depowering it for a while, switch it back on at the wall while holding down the forward and reverse buttons (on the front of my box)

You need to keep them help for approx a minute. It may well start up properly once you have done this

Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker
Ring Sky, they will run you through the troubleshooting proceedure, hopefully that will fix the system.

If not Sky will charge you a call out fee of £65ish to get you back up and running again, this covers all parts and labour.
I'm assuming you are a subscriber.
If you are unhappy with this, cancel (and be willing to do so) you'll be transferred to retentions who may offer you a free repair.
That gum you like is coming back in style.

Thanks for this advice, I did ring Sky who gave me some advice over the phone on what to do. It has worked but I have lost all my saved programmes, a small price to pay though and at least it didn't cost me any thing!!

Sounds like a full planner rebuild, sort of reformatting the H/Drive.

A Sky+ Planner Rebuild DOES NOT format the hard disk and is like checkdisk on a PC. The System Reset is the option that formats the HDD. A Planner Rebuild will only delete recordings if they are badly corrupted which means they would already unplayable.

Both options are in the "hidden" installers menu - Services, System Setup, 0, 1, Select
