O2 - Loyalty Gets You Nowhere..

I'll try and condense this so you don't have to read me prattling on for hours.

Basically; I have been an o2 customer for YEARS since before they were actually o2. I'm a mobile AND broadband customer too and worked out in the past 12 months I've spent over £600 on them alone. So I must have spent thousands over the years and such.

Anyway, upgrade is due on the 12th Jan, I've been calling the other mobile companies and seeing what they can offer. Orange have offered the best with a free Satio, 900 mins, unlim txts and unlim net all for >£30 for 18 months.

So, I call o2 a few weeks back and they tell me to call this past weekend for a 'special package just for me'. I'm currently on 18 months, £35 a month with 600 mins, 1000 texts and a bolt on of any choice (I chose unlimited texts as I text A LOT), so what do I get offered? A WORSE deal than I am currently on. It's 18 months, £35 a month, 600 mins and unlimited texts. That's it.

I even mentioned the other offers and Orange, Vodafone AND T-mobile all beat o2, and the customer service rep was just like "Yeah, we don't match deals." I mean, way to keep your customers happy...

I'm more than likely to be leaving o2, even though I've had fantastic service with them especially the broadband, but if they treat their long lasting customers like that then I really don't want to be a part of it and would prefer to get more value for money with someone else. I think it's a prime example of how companies are these days, rewarded their long standing customers with jack !!!! and only trying to reel in the new ones.

The futures bright, the futures Orange I guess! =P

  • They were exactly the same for me about 2 years ago...when I left them for Orange. I had been with them for about 8 years, from right back when they were called BT Genie. All they offered me to keep me with o2 was a £5 512mb memory card for my phone. So I left. Been with orange ever since. For orange to keep me when I was up for renewal, they dropped my tariff to £15 a month from £35, and gave me the phone I wanted. Much better service. Just a shame I get crap signal in my house with orange but o2 is ok.
  • Call there bluff, ask for disconnections, normally get transfered to retentions who will offer you a better deal, also dont except the first deal they offer you.

I been with o2 for years and haggle a good deal at renewal, currently get 1200 mins 1000 text unlimited 02 - 02 calls and free internet and new handset (blackberry bold) when i took contract out, also got £15 discount on tariff, I pay £30 month for the above
  • They wont even enter the idea of giving you a deal until you're in the last 30 days of your contract.

Also you've been offered the same deal as you're on now, so its not worse. If you got ride of the free text bolt-on then you'd still have 600 minutes and 1000 sms.
Work like you don't need money,
Love like you've never been hurt,
And dance like no one's watching
Save the cheerleader, save the world!

You could go for a 12 month Simplicity deal, a bit more minutes and texts than that, free bolt-on, £20 a month

From time to time the Quidco cashback on this deal is £100, but £23 at the moment. The £100 occurred in some of August and September and again in part of November, so I'm hoping either it comes back in January or the retentions team might manage a bit of discount on it anyway.

That would be £11.33 a month if it does happen, then either use your old phone or buy a new one separately. If you really want an expensive new phone, then go for their £35 offer after all, or consider a 24 month deal £5 cheaper a month.

Or I understand there's a good Orange deal on Topcashback at the moment, not there for long, but I haven't looked up the details yet

Is your upgrade due on the 12th Jan or does your contract end on the 12th Jan?

If it's not actually due yet then O2 can't really offer you much. If it is due (your upgrade date would therefore be the 12th/13th December) then speak to the RETENTIONS team - press the option in the menu for "If you are thinking of leaving O2, press x"

Upgrades can never offer you anything more than what's available online - retentions have the power to offer you a better deal and to beat/match other networks in order to keep you as a customer.
