Had to shop on saturday

Hold your horses it's not as bad as it sounds
We had to go to a wedding this weekend for one of OHs business associcates (evening reception). Those of you who have partners in senior management will appreciate that this is part of the territory to go along and look pretty and smile etc... I hate it but it's part of the job. Networking I think it's commonly referred to
Ok - OH treated me to the dress and I needed new shoes and (don't laugh) a new handbag. (You do not go to a £30k+ wedding in a new dress and shoes that don't go with the dress and a bag in the wrong colour... just trust me) So I finally found the right shoes (Dorothy perkins £30  but worth every penny as I could still walk at the end of the evening) and the perfect bag (New Look £7)...
Why am I rambling on... well in BOTH shops I was asked if I wanted a store card... In DP I could get 15% off my purchase today! (so save what £4.50?) and in NL I could have gotten 50% off (uhmmm great £3.50 then...) and in turn they would have had me signed up for cards with I guess about 29.9% APR!!!!
So what did I do? Well as DFW Nerd number 25 I told them exactly what I thought about their cards and their APR rates etc. And in NL the assistant had the decency to look embarressed when I asked her if she had debt on cards like this?... I also told her to get on this site and get her debt sorted but I wonder if she didn't think I was a complete loony and will be very very far away from here
Maybe if I keep harping on about APR and debts etc I will soon have all the shop assistants in the shops I go to converted to MSE lives

I have these cards, I use them to get discount but then clear the balance at the same time

I have enough trouble with ONE credit card and a current account plus a loan... I'd never be deciplined enough to have these and trust myself to pay them off
not yet at any rate

Oh god i would never trust myself to clear it at the end of the month, I pay on the card to get my discount, then say to the lady "and can i pay £X that i just spent this second off my card please?" and then i have paid for it and got a discount

I have to agree with you regarding the APR on these cards ... but i do sympathise with the sales staff i used to work in Adams, and we "HAD" to each get 2 cards a week ..... we had to ask every customer (i hated doing it so only did it when the boss was about) ..... but i can sympathise with the staff, If you dont hit target you get severe tellings off and then reffered to district line manager ,
the thing that worked me up even more is after a few months of working at Adams they still had the store card but also turned it into a credit card to (mastercard) i think !!!!!Hoping to be a thinner me in 2010!0 -
Oh don't get me wrong I can sympathise with sales targets etc for signing new people up to the cards... but if they can hassle me to get me to sign up then I will hassle them back about the APR

I used to work in a shop (Cromwells Madhouse) when I was still at school and thankfully we didn't have the cards but just high sales figures... I loved that kind of selling because I am good at it, and to be honest I don't think I'd mind if someone gave me a good deal on the store cards... it's the 29.9% APR I really object to
But I am now so MSE and DFW focussed hat I hate spending money... which made me really grumpy in the first place about even being there so I guess they kinda caught the brunt of my tetchiness
Oh well even if I have only converted ONE shop assistant to MSE then I will be happy and I'll carry on spreading the gospel
heehee ok ok maybe not but hey
Wondergirl that's not a bad idea... I didn't know you could do that to be honest! Once I clear my Egg card I might look into doing that
Do you mind me asking what storecards you have and you're able to do this on?DFW Nerd #025DFW no more! Officially debt free 2017 - now joining the MFW's!

That's genius. I bet you get some shocked looks!
Last time I was in DP the assistant got a calculator out and worked out the discount (because I obviously can't do 20% in my head  ). I wish I'd found this site before then, I'd have made her work out the interest over a year too!DFW Nerd #104 I :heartpuls my Kitten

Not at all, I have a Topshop and Dorothy Perkins cards (both GE Money) but they do a lot of store card discounts and i always pay straight after putting it onto the card, it was actually a staff member that told me this loophole when i signed up for the first one!All comments and advice given is my own opinion and does not represent the views or advice of any debt advice organisation.
