  • Is £500 high? Well, yes. But if you actually are in Cornwall, the water there is known to beexpensive. What about telling us what your consumption is and asking if that is high?

The average for 5 people is aprox 300 cubic metres a years - so your 6 month bill would be around 150 cubic metres.

Did you check your meter reading was correct when you moved in?
  • one big problem which catches a lot of people out, is meter not read for a while , then when its read its a long way off the estimate , resulting in high bills , tip alway check you reading if estmated read your self and get it off to the waterco, same goes for electric and gas,

The problem with saying three women shower every day is that could be three times a three minute 'normal pressure' shower (4 1/2 hours a month) or three times a fifteen minute power shower (23 hours a month!). Also with a washing machine the 'cottons' programme or any quick wash setting tends to use far less water than the 'synthetics' programme - with the washing machine running daily this could add up.

We moved back to Cornwall twelve months ago from East Anglia, both premises on water meters, we were paying £420 pa. and here it has gone up to £744 pa. That is two adults using the same amount of water and we always check the bills to ensure the readings are correct or if estimated correct to within a few units.
