0871 revenge
I've searched all over the site and can't find the thread I'm looking for. A while ago it was suggested we get revenge on companies who waste our time phoning and trying to sell stuff to us by getting our own 0871 number and giving it to such companies as a contact number. I did this (strangely don't get so many rubbish calls these days) and get an statement emailed once a month. It's all of about 12p this month
Don't think I'll ever reach the £50.00 threshold for getting paid but if it discourages annoying calls it's all good.
Anyway I thought I'd have a quick look at their site which is different to the one I originally applied on and it now says there that the service I've got costs £10 per month although when I took it out it was free. Has anyone who did this been charged or contacted about a monthly fee? I've emailed them but no reply yet. ???

Just be aware that FAQ says:Premium Rate services are regulated by ICSIS and may require their prior approval.
I'd suppose a personal premium rate number would be governed by the same ICSIS rules?"...And I gave that man directions, even though I didn't know the way, 'cause that's the kind of guy I am this week." -- Homer Simpson0 -

Unfortunately you are correct.
This is covered in “Saynoto0870” and I quote:
Nice idea though! You need to buy recording equipment, and register the fact that you operate a "premium rate service" and you also need to make a bond payment to ICSTIS.
You need an announcement stating that the call is recorded, the cost of the call, and queuing is prohibited on 090 numbers, and a delay in answering the phone, ie no 1571, and leaving the phone ringing is in breach of those rules.Robert0
