our butchers are cheaper than supermarkets. You get help and advice too. There is no-one in the supermarket knows about meat. Butcher is giving you a service too. Proper butchering is done and he knows his stuff like a good dentist or mechanic or hairdresser knows theres!
I cant stand it when people buy their meat elsewhere then expect a butcher they didnt buy it from to answer their questions!:footie:0 -
Cooking-mama do you only have one local butcher? We have 3 a prices are around that of a supermarket but meat quality is far superior.MF aim 10th December 2020 :j:eek:MFW 2012 no86 OP 0/20000

we have 3 too,one of which seems to sell poor quality meat, all his meat packs consists of sausages, burgers, streaky bacon and fat laden mince.(he's the only one with lowest prices )and another the other 2 are owned by the same family, both award winning--and rightly so---but very very expensive.
Unfortunately i also live in the town that suffered the notorious E-coli outbreak in the winter of 96,over 20 people died, and around 400 were very ill(some never made a full recovery, still on kidney dialysis etc),the outbreak was linked to a local butchers,a very well respected, longstanding, and again an award winning butcher-who it turned out was ignorant to food hygiene regulations,(was handling raw and cooked meats together-think this is what caused the E-coli,it was his cooked meats,he also had poor cleaning schedules, and didnt have seperate knives etc for raw and cooked food...you would never guess when you went in either, shop looked spotless)he faced criminal charges, lost his business(one of his sons tried to open up a couple of years after, but trust was lost...they even tried turning the butchers premises into a bakers, but still people were reluctant to shop in it,I dunno if these events have any bearing on other local butchers prices, but they are beyond my means...
I remeber 2 christmases ago i bought a small smoked ham joint from Tesco,it cost £3.50,but then i wasnt sure if my youngest would eat it smoked..rather than face the crowds in tesco again,i went into the butchers,to buy same size ham but unsmoked and it was almost £9+,i was shocked, and think that was the last time i bought meat from the butchers, and from what i remember it was any better than Tesco stuff.-nowadays ive been buying from Costco-who have an instore butcher, and Morrisons who also have an instore butcher willing to help.
Last year i was buying from a local farm shop, butchermeat was lovely, slightly cheaper than butchers, but more expensive than supermarkets, but after dropping my hours at work i had to let price dictate, and so it was back to the supermarket.Slimming World..Wk1,..STS,..Wk2,..-2LB,..Wk3,..-3.5lb,..Wk4,..-2.5,..Wk5,..-1/2lb,Wk6,..STS,..Wk7,..-1lb.
